Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Division of Administrative Services.

This position is also announced open to status (federal / veteran / other) eligibles with announcement : IM-1541-GLCA-24-12556467-ST.

Duties

  • Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
  • Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.

Inventory and / or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment / supplies as needed.

Additional duties for GS-06 : Review and verify the accuracy of manuals and / or standard operating procedures for the implementation of new and existing system designs and / or modifications.

Additional duties for GS-06 : Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Career-Seasonal positions are subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis.

As such, the selectee will be in a non-pay / non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.

The selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.

The typical season is February to January but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required within 10 days from entry-on-duty.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • You will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain / maintain a government charge card with travel and / or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and : (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
  • or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10 / 10 / 2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month / year), and the resume must reflect full and / or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.

e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement :

EXPERIENCE : At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

This experience includes activities such as : handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial / accounting data (such as fee and stock data);

performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.

to make sales transactions; or ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION : Successful completion of at least 4 years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

One full year of academic study is 30 semester hours. You must include transcripts.

Possession of an equivalent combination of education and experience (only education in excess of the first 60 semester ours (i.

e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement). For example, 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 1 year beyond the second year of college study (50% of the qualifying education), equals 100% of the total requirement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement :

EXPERIENCE : At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

  • This experience includes activities such as : performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system;
  • using an automated financial system to perform accounting and / or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record;

or resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and / or fee collection process. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION : Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level study (18 semester hours or equivalent) that directly applies to the work of the position in a field such as accounting, business, or finance.

The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. You must include transcripts.

Possession of an equivalent combination of education and experience. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 12 semester hours of graduate study from an accredited institution (75% of the qualifying education), equals greater than 100% of the total requirement.

Volunteer Experience : Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.

g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
