As Plant Bioinformatician for analysis of high-throughput OMICS data at the KWS Gateway Research Centre , St. Louis / USA you will bepart of a dynamic and growing department.
You will work on a permanent, full-time basis at the KWS Gateway Research Centre / USA in a hybrid capacity.
The bioinformatics team is mostly located in Einbeck / Germany, you will work closely together with colleagues from different research departments including molecular service and trait development teams in St.
Louis. This encompasses the development of robust and productive bioinformatic workflows to identify variants from both amplicon and whole genome sequencing data, annotation of gene models, development of in silico analyses to support the design of genome editing experiments and the analysis of high throughput omics data with the purposes of gene discovery.
You will have the possibility to explore and evaluate different open-source and proprietary tools and technologies. If you have been studying bioinformatics or computer science and have an interest in analysis of high-throughput plant science data, we would like you to consider this opportunity.
Responsibilities :
- Developing bioinformatics solutions with focus on, but not restricted to, Genome Editing analyses related to current research topics and beyond in close cooperation with molecular service teams.
- Serve as an interface between the data analytic teams in Einbeck / Germany and the molecular research teams in St. Louis, MO.
- Support gene discovery efforts and experimental design across a diverse and growing portfolio of commercial crop species.
- Evaluation of diverse methods and software applications for bioinformatics analysis (e.g. for characterization of modified plants, gene discovery)
- Analysis of diverse OMICS data (e.g. genome assembly, variant calling also using pan-genome approaches, Targeted Comparative Resequencing annotation, expression analyses, etc. )
- Support the integration and visualization of analysis results
- Consulting and training for research and breeding regarding bioinformatics analyses
- Documentation, testing and provision of software and services
Required Skills / Experience :
- University degree in a natural science, bioinformatics or computer science field Masters Degree or Higher
- Expertise in use of current bioinformatics software applications esp. for plants. Skills in genome editing analyses is a plus.
- Experience in Linux and scripting languages (Python, Bash)
- Good SQL Knowledge
- Experience in high performance computing desirable
- Brought interest / understanding / experience in IT related topics (hardware, data integration, etc.)
- Biological knowledge of molecular genetics and plant physiology is a plus.
- Willingness to travel
- Excellent team player and communication skills with a service-oriented mindset.
