POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the President, this role serves as senior legal advisor by providing advice on general and specialized institutional and higher education legal issues.
- Provides legal support and guidance to all levels of Queens College management, faculty and staff.
- Manages and supports litigation and administrative cases involving College faculty, officers and employees.
- Administers and interprets University Bylaws, University and College policies and procedures, College governance charter and various collective bargaining agreements.
- Develops and drafts legal documents, correspondence and transactional documents.
- Works closely with CUNY’s Office of the General Counsel in managing and supporting litigation and administrative cases involving students, faculty and staff.
- Provides ongoing legal counsel, advice and assistance on matters involving the College and College-affiliated entities, including negotiating, drafting, editing and revising a wide range of proposed, pending and renewal contracts.
- Serves as the college Ethics Officer and Records Access Officer and responds to FOIL, subpoena and records requests; also serves as the campus liaison for immigration matters.
- Reviews and maintains up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal laws and maintains college / unit policies and procedures that are consistent with those laws.
- Directs the College Labor Relations functions and serves as the Labor Designee. Handles employee grievances and disciplinary proceedings as well as student disciplinary appeals.
Advocates for the College at appeal hearings.
- Responds to contractual agreements, policy and procedural inquiries from a wide variety of College officials, including Vice Presidents, Deans and Department Chairs.
- Trains College employees to ensure compliance with NYS and CUNY ethics obligations
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience.
J.D. from an accredited law school and membership in NY State bar required.
Preferred qualifications :
- Experience in legal office of higher education institution or governmental entity
- Experience with unions / collective bargaining agreements

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Range : $160,000 - $180,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
