As a Mental Health Counselor at Fairmont State University, you will play a crucial role in providing counseling services to students, promoting mental health awareness, and fostering a supportive campus community.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following :

• Provide mental health services to college student population including short term therapy, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and primary prevention and intervention programs to address personal and social issues faced by college students.
• Providing individual and group therapy for a variety of mental health issues to FSU students;
• Providing mental health resources to students, staff, and faculty in person, and electronically;
• Maintaining up-to-date client files and records in the Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services Department;
• Consulting with faculty and staff regarding their concerns about students;
• Educating instructors, administrative staff, and students about mental health issues;
• Developing and implementing outreach programs for the campus community, and collaborating with departments across campus to meet students’ mental health needs;’
• Collecting feedback and data about use and efficiency of the Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services activities;
• Crisis intervention;
• Serving on various committees;
• Attending professional development courses / workshops;
• Coordinating events and programs offered;
• Collaborating with campus community to identify and address issues inhibiting student retention and graduation rates; and,
• Coordinate with the Director of Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services in establishing goals and ensuring best practices are implemented within the counseling center;
• Serving on the CARE team in collaboration with other departments to best meet students’ needs;
• Supervising to graduate counseling interns and practicum students;
• Completing administrative tasks such as greeting visitors to the Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services Department, accepting & routing phone calls, and ensuring all paperwork is completed before scheduled appointments;
• Perform other duties as necessary and assigned.

Minimum Required Education Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited program in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work.

Required Licenses and / or Certifications LPC, LMSW, LIS, LCS, LMA, LICSW, PsyD, PhD, Licensed psychologist Minimum Required Qualifications 2+ years working in student health department.

Exceptional new graduates will be considered. Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrable skills in a variety of evidence based counseling modalities, including trauma focused modalities.
• Demonstrable ability to work with diverse individuals in terms of identify, demographics, and clinical presentation.
• Well-developed skills in assessment and written and oral communication.
• Training and experience in clinical work with young adults, substance abuse treatment, and work in educational setting.
• Board approved ability to supervise trainees.
• Board approved to supervise trainees.
• Experience in a college counseling center preferred.
• Experience designing flyers, newsletters, and other promotional materials preferred.
• Experience working with veterans.
