Job Summary : The Director-Major Gifts (Education) provides strategic leadership support and management of a team of development professionals who raise funds on behalf of the institution's hospitals, schools and programs.

Reporting to the AVP of Philanthropy, develops and personally manages a portfolio of alumni and donors. Serves as a philanthropic liaison for direct reports, deans, and administrators in fundraising efforts, planning and strategy.

Upholds strategic relationships with all nine schools, their Deans and finance officers. Collaborates with Children’s Hospital Foundation for major gifts.

Works collaboratively with leadership and other Advancement teams to establish and support individual, team, and departmental goals.

Serves as leadership back up for grateful patient philanthropy program. Strategizes to find the most effective ways in which clinical and academic fundraisers can work judiciously to increase the overall fundraising efforts for the institution.

Works closely with the MarCom department on signature events that create cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation opportunities with donors.

Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Marketing or Communications required. Minimum five years relevant experience in major gift fundraising, marketing, public relations, business or related field required.

Minimum one year of supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills : Able to initiate, develop and maintain long-term relationships with donors and prospects. Able to listen and understand key aspects of a donor or prospective donor conversation to identify needs and find solutions that satisfy donor passions and institutional needs.

Must possess the ability to manage complex tasks and meet deadlines. Able to read, write and speak with professional quality;

use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate / troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.

  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws;
  • work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone;
  • think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material;

work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.

Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace;

see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications : Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) required within three years of hire date.
