The Recreation Department offers high quality leisure programs and services that promote healthy and active lifestyles. Our adaptive programming allows individuals and families with special needs the opportunity to meet their physical, social, and emotional goals through programs such as Daytime Friendship Club, Adaptive Bowling, and social events such as Friday Frolics and Monday Mingles.
DUTIES
- Lead and supervise adaptive recreation programs as directed by the Coordinator and Adaptive Recreation Supervisor.
- Assist and redirect adaptive participants who may have physical and / or cognitive disabilities.
- Advise Adaptive Recreation Coordinator of supplies needed for programs and special events.
- Maintain good public relations with staff and community.
- Advise program Coordinator and Supervisor of problems, complaints and discipline problems promptly - within 24 hours.
- Complete accident and / or incident reports as needed and submit to the Coordinator and Supervisor within 24 hours.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school degree or GED equivalent.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting with program participants, staff, aides, and family members.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver License with a good driving record (based on city standards).

PREFERENCES
- Prefer interest in working with special needs populations of all ages.
- Prefer recent work or volunteer experience in the adaptive field, with special needs populations, recreation planning, or closely related field.
- CPR / First Aid Certified, or willing to become.
HOURS
Part-time, approx. 15 hours per week.
Schedule and availability must be attentive to programming and customer service needs. Regular schedule includes year-round, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 : 30a-3p, with potential for additional days or evenings for special events, field trips, or other programs.
