The purpose of the School Nutrition Manager Trainee Program is to provide training through both hands-on experience and classroom instruction to prepare trainees for a potential management position in Hamilton County School Nutrition.
The intent is to teach the standards of quantity school food production and service in accordance with USDA, State of Tennessee, and local program guidelines.

Additional Information
- Pay for internal applicants will be at their current rate of pay. Pay for external applicants will be based on education and experience.
- Trainees may be asked to attend classroom training during school breaks.
- Trainees must obtain their ServSafe certification prior to being offered a management position. The cost of certification is covered by the District.
- An applicant must commit to completing the entire training program. If the trainee does not complete the program, a different position will be offered, which may or may not be commensurate with the trainee’s original position.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include :
- HS diploma or GED required
- Internal Applicants : a minimum of 1 year in a School Nutrition food service operation with 1-month main meat cook and cashiering experience, with a positive reference by the applicant's Cafeteria Manager
- External Applicants : a minimum of 1 year in food service management, with positive references
- A passing score on a basic math and reading comprehension test required
