Accounting Analyst
Position Summary
The Accounting Analyst performs and / or coordinates strategic, broad-impact financial analysis, reporting, and systems development for institutional activity at SFCC.
The Accounting Analyst has involvement with the development and delivery of financial and business training programs as appropriate.
This role may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement as determined by the Accounting Supervisor
Duties & Responsibilities
Compiles and analyzes financial information from all components of the finance department, and develops integrated revenue / expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations.
Communicates with Finance and Budget Office on budget compliance issues.
Performs regular reconciliation and analysis of general ledger balances, provides reports and identifies balance abnormalities as needed.
Performs expenditure pre-audit to ensure consistent reporting and adherence to federal and state financial reporting regulations and guidelines, and conformity with SFCC fiscal policies and procedures.
Collaborates with supervisor and other departments to perform research and testing of financial transactions in Workday and propose enhancements and upgrades to financial information and / or systems.
Analyzes, designs, documents, and implements internal controls and financial reporting systems and procedures for the Finance Office.
Assists supervisor in providing technical Workday support for SFCC.
Designs, develops and implements finance related training for SFCC finance staff and SFCC employees
Reviews, reconciles and files monthly reports with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board.
Serves as liaison with other departments in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, and college financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and / or accounting applications.
Knowledge of standard and / or fund accounting principles, methods, and applications.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and / or projections.
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
Account balancing and reconciling skills.
Ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.
Working knowledge of financial software tools to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, statements, and / or projections.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 18 credit hours in accounting
Two years’ experience in an accounting or finance position
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Workday Finance ERP
Higher Education or government experience
Physical Demands and Working Conditions :
The work is typically performed in an office setting.
The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
Repetitive hand motion and prolonged use of a computer.
Work Hours : Typically, 8 : 00 a.m. - 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and / or weekends.
