Position Information Job Title Adjunct Lecturer in Voice (2024 - 2025) Job Description The Vocal Studies program at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford is accepting applications for the position of adjunct Lecturer in Voice.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching Voice at the undergraduate and graduate levels and the ability to recruit a studio of students.

We seek candidates who possess a collaborative spirit suited to enhancing a collegial department culture. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience teaching tenor, countertenor, baritone, and bass voices.

This is a nine-month, part-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. This position may be renewed based on performance and continuing need for the position.

Employment will start on August 16, 2024. Compensation will be commensurate with professional experience.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Teach weekly studio voice lessons to vocal performance majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Instruct courses aligned with candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs; potential courses may include Vocal Pedagogy, Diction, and / or Stage Direction
  • Participate in the assessment of vocal studio juries and MM and DMA capstone recital juries
  • Teach a weekly applied studio voice class
  • Evaluate audition materials from students seeking admission
  • Maintain an active presence within the department by attending on-campus performances and participating in events such as concerts, faculty recitals, and other gatherings
  • Attend vocal studies department faculty meetings and participate in committees as required
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty colleagues and take an active role in advancing the long-term goals of the vocal studies program
  • Recruit new undergraduate and graduate students

Responsibilities Required Qualifications Required Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in vocal performance (significant international performance experience and a distinguished teaching resume may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree)
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and / or professional levels
  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience at an accredited higher education institution strongly preferred but not required
  • Professional distinction with demonstrated performance success as a singing artist
  • Expertise and significant teaching experience in both classical and non-classical vocal techniques and styles, including musical theater
  • A clear and engaging approach to teaching that encourages technically sound, healthy, stylistically informed, and expressive singing
  • An openness to diverse musical styles and ways of learning and teaching
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to building and nurturing a strong, diverse, and connected learning community
  • Familiarity with languages generally encountered in vocal and choral literature
