The Role

To oversee the daily operations of the organization by working closely with department leaders and key collaborators. Identify and implement internal systems, processes, and communications to meet strategic goals.

Handle recruitment, retention, and engagement programs that increase the effectiveness and overall impact of volunteers at the local, district, and section levels.

Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director (CEO / ED) to develop the section's short-term and long-term vision and strategy for the continued growth of diverse tennis participation and volunteer engagement.

  • Provide leadership and direction, and lead all aspects of development, implementation, evaluation and ongoing innovation to ensure the long-term success of the section's efforts.
  • Advise and serve as strategic partner for the CEO / ED.
  • Lead and coordinate activities related to the daily operations of the organization. Streamline and optimize day-to-day operations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partner with the CEO / ED to set and / or implement policies and procedures and to follow through with implementation across the section and districts.
  • Provide support to the CEO / ED, Board of Directors, district councils, section committees, project teams, and department leadership.
  • Provide resources, education, and positive mentoring to department heads to ensure operational alignment with organizational goals.

Serve as liaison between departments, encouraging effective communication and collaboration.

  • Support department heads in human resource functions including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Utilize data and analytics from USTA and other agencies to drive decision-making and positive change to support the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Anticipate the needs of the CEO / ED and resolve the priority of matters for the attention of the CEO / ED; redirect or handle matters as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement standardized processes, procedures, training, education, and best practices to improve workflow and resource utilization for volunteers and staff.
  • Serve as the direct liaison to council leadership, committees, and project teams. Assist with running of meetings and budget process, as needed.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications on budget plans that support volunteer initiatives and strategy.

Work with the marketing and communications department on developing and maintaining information that will inform, educate, and train customers.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on projects pertaining to recruitment, training and retention of diverse volunteers.
  • Represent the organization at key national, section and district meetings and special events.
  • Work positively and cooperatively with all USTA Section, District, and National staff and volunteers.
  • Form new alliances and partnerships while enhancing existing relationships with industry partners and organizations who contribute to the growth of tennis.
  • Manage highly confidential and urgent, time-sensitive matters.
  • Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CEO / ED.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
  • Proficient with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite. Savvy in learning new technology platforms with the ability to instruct skills to others.
  • Knowledge of USTA programs and the tennis industry is required.
  • Meet travel demands; work nights and weekends as required.
