About the job :

Kent is looking for a Principal Designer - Electrical to be based in Houston, TX. You will be responsible for technical accuracy and quality of Electrical design projects and drawings .

You will have the ability to work with our high value engineering office and communicate clear and concise guidance as required.

Skills and Responsibilities :

• Prepare accurate and complete drawings using practical design knowledge.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and assist Lead Engineer and / or Designer to ensure effective quality product.
• Conduct field investigations when needed, produce field reports with detailed sketches.
• Keep up to date on new design processes, modeling, drafting techniques, and IMS and standards.
• Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower cost and improve work quality and facilitate maintenance.
• Investigate and resolve unusual design and field engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in novel ways.
• Ensure that effective methods and design / engineering techniques are used.
• Resolve project issues and problems.
• Provide technical guidance to co-workers.
• Contribute to a team environment by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
• Ensure alignment between all disciplines that are involved with 3D CAD to prepare for model reviews and issue deliverables.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your knowledge / skills, education, and experience : Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification :

• Diploma holder or higher qualification required. Degree holder preferred. college graduation with 15+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience and refinery, midstream, petrochemical, or other heavy industries.
• Brown field services experience.
• Capable of performing duties with minimum supervision.
• Have demonstrated experience with leading small projects and meeting aggressive schedules.
• Technical checking experience.
• In depth knowledge of computer applications for engineering design.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in technology.
• Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
• Experience with design and / or construction of plants desirable.
• In depth knowledge of electrical standards, methods, and practices.
• Proficient in the following software : AutoCAD, 3D CAD (Bentley required), Smartplant 3D and PDS or PDMS is a plus.
• Advanced level of design and construction knowledge required.
• Familiar with PIP Standards.
• In depth advanced knowledge of NEC, IEC, & IEEE design complying with industry standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD / Bentley required. Knowledge of Microstation or SmartPlant is a big plus.
• Experienced in Navisworks.

Skills Requirement :

• MS Office (Excel and Word) and product proficiency required.
• Ability to integrate new technologies into daily work processes.

Communication :

Ability to communicate effectively across location, region and corporate to accomplish objectives
