We have an opportunity for a Billing Specialist (Behavioral Health) to work remotely (IN, KY, OH, NJ, PA highly preferred).

The Billing Specialis t is responsible for managing the complete billing cycle, including claims submission, reimbursement, and collections for behavioral health services.

This role requires detailed knowledge of behavioral health billing codes, insurance claims, and patient account management to ensure accurate and timely revenue collection.

Responsibilities :

  • Explains financial requirements to patients, collects, and records copayments as required.
  • Performs registration functions for new and existing patients and activating patient files, ensuring proper registration, and provides guidance to Patient Coordinators on proper registration.
  • Prepares billing information and supporting the accuracy and efficiency of the billing process.
  • Submits accurate and timely behavioral health claims to insurance companies.
  • Based on clinical documentation, ensures proper use of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for behavioral health services by reviewing and verifying coding accuracy before claim submission.
  • Conducts follow-up on unpaid claims, resolves denials, and reprocesses claims when necessary.
  • Communicates with insurance companies for clarification and resolution of claims issues.
  • Takes appropriate action with delinquent accounts.
  • Interprets explanations of benefits.
  • Conducts AR audits and write-off audits.
  • Completes payer project assessment and follow-up.
  • Provides exceptional customer service by promptly responding to emails and resolving projects in a timely manner.
  • Completes revenue cycle management workflow and policy training.
  • Reconciles accounts.
  • Stays up to date with state and federal regulations, insurance requirements, and changes in behavioral health billing guidelines.
  • Monitors accounts A / R and maintains accurate records. Provides regular reports to management regarding A / R status, billing challenges, and potential solutions.
  • Acts as liaison with third-party Behavioral Health partner, providing necessary reporting and appropriate guidance. Addresses documentation gaps or billing issues that may delay reimbursement.
  • Performs other revenue cycle management duties as assigned.

Education & Experience :

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required. Associates degree or completion of an accredited certification program highly preferred.
  • AAPC certification a plus.
  • Minimum 1-year recent experience in Behavioral Health medical billing.
  • eClinical Works (eCW) ER experience a plus.
