OPEN RANK : Director or Executive Director of Alumni Engagement for Maryland Carey Law-(L3)
The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law seeks an enthusiastic and talented individual to serve as Director / Executive Director of Alumni Engagement.
Applicants will be considered for either an Alumni Giving Officer III (Director) or Alumni Giving Officer IV (Executive Director) level depending on education and experience.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for External Relations, the Director / Executive Director will be an instrumental partner to enhance and enrich the existing alumni relations operations.
The Director / Executive Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for successfully executing and growing a comprehensive engagement program designed to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, and personal and professional development, through alumni events and programs that enhance loyalty, dedication, and support for the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
The Director / Executive Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for implementing a strategic and innovative alumni engagement plan including communications, events, and programming.
The Director / Executive Director must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building relationships and affinity for educational programs.

The Director / Executive Director is given latitude to make decisions to identify and achieve defined objectives and short- and long-term projects to grow and maintain the alumni engagement program.
The Director / Executive Director will serve as a thought leader in strategy sessions related to the alumni and donor experience and work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and alumni engagement staff, other law school departments, and with representatives of the University that interact with the alumni community.

AGO III / Director Primary Duties :
- Plan and execute all alumni events, including Alumni Weekend, reunion programming, local and regional networking events, and Alumni Honors, among others.
- Collaborate with and support other groups’ events such as student organizations, student journals, and specialty programs where there is an alumni component
- In coordination with the Associate Dean, strategically manage Alumni Board by supporting membership and annual activities, encouraging engagement and leadership, and inspiring philanthropic support.
- Liaise / collaborate with Career Development Office, Office of Communications, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Admission, and Office of Special Events to identify, create and nurture opportunities for meaningful alumni engagement.
Examples include identifying alumni to serve as volunteers for panels, mentoring, and networking opportunities with students and prospective students and nurturing relationships with alumni to promote hiring at a wide variety of employers
- Implement class agent / alumni ambassador program.
- Lead strategy and implementation for almost all alumni communications, including monthly newsletter, event invitations, alumni website (including Class Action), social media, and individual inquiries.
Responsible for drafting content and messaging and collaborating with others on same.
Lead role in maintaining and utilizing alumni data.
AGO IV / Executive Director Primary Duties :
- All of the primary duties listed above plus :
- Strategically manage Alumni Board by supporting membership and annual activities, encouraging engagement and leadership, and inspiring philanthropic support.
- Develop and implement alumni engagement metrics tools.
- Develop and implement strategies to leverage relationships with alumni to encourage leadership annual and major giving.
Maintain small portfolio of prospects, mostly Alumni Board members and other active alumni volunteers, with the goal of cultivating and soliciting leadership annual gifts and entry-level multi-year gifts.
Qualifications
AGO III / Director Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree
Experience : Four years of development and / or alumni engagement experience in annual giving, phonathons, alumni engagement, special events, fundraising, or higher education development experience and / or engagement in nonprofit board, bar association or student organization leadership.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience.
In instances where specific education and / or experience is required only directly related education and / or experience may be substituted.
Supervisory Experience : One year of work coordination of other staff or volunteers.
AGO IV / Executive Director Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree
Experience : Five years of development and / or alumni engagement experience in annual giving, phonathons, alumni engagement, special events, fundraising, or higher education development experience and / or engagement in nonprofit board, bar association or student organization leadership.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience.
In instances where specific education and / or experience is required only directly related education and / or experience may be substituted.
Supervisory Experience : Two years of work coordination or direct supervision of staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Knowledge in fundraising, annual giving and / or alumni engagement activities.
- Ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with volunteer development and oversight. Ability to communicate and interact with, as well as support effective partnerships with, peers, subordinates, and campus and community leaders.
- Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes and possess the necessary skills to implement strategic initiatives.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Adaptable, energetic, and articulate with a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to complete multiple, simultaneous tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work professionally with high profile volunteers, academics, and attendees.
- Ability to staff events as needed (including evenings and occasional weekends).
- Experience in producing high quality events a plus.
- Possess expertise with office computer systems and relevant programs including Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- CRM database experience preferred.

Hiring Range : $90, - $, per year for AGOIII / Director / $, - $, per year for AGO IV / Executive Director (Commensurate with education and experience)
