ABOUT MID VALLEY DISPOSAL
Founded in 1997, Mid Valley Disposal (MVD) is the leading locally owned and operated company that services recycling, organics, and solid waste in the Central Valley.
The Kalpakoff family has four generations of experience in successfully operating a solid waste management company in California.
Today, MVD is being operated by Joseph and Jonathan Kalpakoff (fourth generation). With over 350 employees, MVD provides exclusive collection services to a total of 31 local jurisdictions and is permitted to provide collection services in Fresno, Merced, Madera, Kings, and Tulare Counties.
Mid Valley Disposal is currently seeking applicants with experience managing all aspects of Operations in the Solid Waste Industry.
This position will be responsible for the day-day planning, organizing maintaining safety standards, compliance with government regulations direction, and leadership of all dept staff including all drivers, dispatchers, and associated location employees.
SOLID WASTE / TRASH OPERATIONS MANAGER
SUMMARY : Within the assigned division(s), the operations manager is responsible for the safe and effective collection activities for commercial, residential, industrial, and any other line of business in their assigned geographic area.
The operations manager directly manages the local operations team made up of route supervisor(s), dispatcher(s), and other support personal as assigned.
The operations manager, through the operations team supports the team of drivers, lead drivers, and helpers. The operations manager is accountable for all matters related to collection, operations, safety and accident preventive programs, and divisional compliance with rules, polices, and procedures.
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WOULD BE EXPECTED TO :
- Coordinating different teams to foster exchange of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities.
- Provides support to the Operations Department
- Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures.
- Closely monitor and control labor and operating expenditures.
- Utilize and maintain reporting tools for use in minimizing expenses and increasing efficiencies.
- Effectively communicate status to upper management on a regular basis
- Maintain intimate knowledge of municipal contracts and cultivate relationships with key municipal government officials.
- Plan and implement routing and logistics changes to ensure operational efficiency.
- Oversee all depot employees counseling / disciplinary actions as well as performance reviews and coaching sessions.
- Assist DM with new bid and proposals as well as ongoing contract management.
- Review and approve time off requests.
- Correct missing / erroneous punches on timecards daily.
- Monitor and oversee safety compliance and reporting for depot location.
- Ensure efficiency in all daily open / close duties.
- Oversee dispatch and support all hauling operations.
- Identify, develop, and maintain new and existing training programs and initiatives.
- Oversees submissions of expense reports / request deadlines
- Coordinate with Maintenance Department to ensure equipment is in a good working order and compliant with established safety standards.
- Coordinate with other MVD departments regarding special projects including cleanups, parades, and community events. EXPERIENCE :

- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Knowledge of industry safety standard and practices
- Basic computer skills. Familiarity with MS office programs. Demonstrated ability to effectively use Encore Software
- Strong written / verbal communicator with various levels of staff.
- Creative in generating new ideas and developing communications.
- Experience managing teams of employees and direct reports.
EDUCATION :
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
- Prior experience in transportation or solid waste knowledge preferred.
- Applicant should be self-motivated, safety oriented and be able to work in a deadline driven environment.
POSITION LOCATION : Mid Valley Disposal has 8 locations throughout the Central Valley. This position will cover the Atwater & Los Banos locations.
Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
This is a full-time position. Schedule will be Monday through Friday occasionally Saturdays. Salary range : $80,000 to $95,000 yr.
