We are a consulting firm that recently won a contract with Jefferson Parish to provide Spanish Interpretation services. The Spanish interpretation services will be provided on-site during emergency situations (tornados, hurricanes, and other natural disasters).
The specifics for the position are provided below.
In an emergency, it is important for Jefferson Parish to be able to communicate with all residents, including those that do not speak English.
Per the U.S. Census, 18.2% of Jefferson parish residents speak a language other than English at home and 53% of those individuals speak English less than very well.
Jefferson Parish needs interpreters for residents during emergencies at evacuation pick up points, shelters, community distribution sites and through the emergency operations center.
Spanish interpreters are needed for in person interpretation services at evacuation pick up points, shelters, and community distribution sites at various times of day within 24 hours of the Jefferson Parish activation of emergency services.
The interpreters will work in safe locations, have access to food and water, and be given information as the Jefferson Parish officials receive it.
Compensation : $32.00 per hour*.
Bonuses will be provided after each emergency situation is worked by Interpreters.
