JOB SUMMARY :

To transport students safely to and from school and assist students while entering and exiting the bus. Responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous school bus driving experience preferred.
  • Three (3) years of successful automobile driving experience with a good driving record.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Maryland Class B Commercial Driver's License (air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements), or equivalent within the period of time specified by the pre-service training program.
  • Satisfactorily pass the pre-employment and annual physical examination for school vehicle drivers.
  • Satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Satisfactorily pass a fingerprint background investigation.
  • Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit for long period of time in the bus driver's seat, reach the steering wheel and pedals and wear the seat belt properly every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Drive children safely to and from the various schools on assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule.

2. Adhere to policies and procedures in maintaining appropriate student behavior and discipline.

3. Administer first aid as required, and contacts appropriate administrators in case of serious injury or illness.

4. May transport, supervise, and assist children with special learning needs and physical handicaps.

5. Complete pre- and post-trip bus inspections; sweep, clean and refuel bus daily.

6. Maintain a clean bus in good mechanical condition and report any mechanical defects or malfunctions.

7. Complete records and reports relating to bus operations in a timely manner; compiles and submits accident report information and reports prolonged traffic delays.

8. Plan, organize and implement vehicle evacuation drills.

9. Respond to public contacts concerning transportation problems and concerns.

10. Attends all in-service and safety training meetings as required.

11. Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.

12. Must maintain a clean and professional appearance.

13. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.

HOURS : Full-time, 40 hours per week on average
