Job Summary :
The position of Principal Field Engineer involves supporting and overseeing field operations, providing accurate information to project controls regarding the progress of work in the field.
This individual will work closely with superintendents and foremen to ensure that construction aligns with the provided drawings and specifications, reporting directly to the project engineer.
Effective communication and collaboration with craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and the project team are crucial for success in this role.
Regular travel is required.
Essential Functions :
- Participate in the turnover meeting for estimation
- Conduct quantity takeoffs
- Assist in converting the estimate into a controlled budget and set up job files
- Coordinate and review submittals
- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings held daily and weekly
- Manage quantities and perform necessary quantity takeoffs
- Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials to meet crew requirements
- Oversee subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen
- Assist in the development and monitoring of work plans alongside the project engineer, superintendents, and foremen
- Accurately manage and report quantity and cost data, sharing results with superintendents and foremen
- Support change order pricing processes
- Participate in project document control procedures
- Facilitate communication and documentation between ZCC, owner, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Maintain an accurate record set of project drawings and specifications
- Contribute to the project close-out process
- Finalize cost report quantities for payment applications and project reports
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of As-Built drawings
- Perform miscellaneous and other required duties

Required Skills & Experience :
- Ability to obtain airport security clearance
- 3-5 years of recent experience in heavy highway, road, and bridge construction (prior internship with a heavy civil contractor preferred)
- Experience working on medium to large projects ($10M+)
- Familiarity with multiple disciplines related to heavy civil projects
- Proficiency in Hard Dollar and SAP systems (preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar field (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent leadership skills
- Effective problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft programs, especially Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Regular travel required
