Park Overview

Near the summit of the Blue Mountains, Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area provides visitors a refreshing place to camp in a mature forest between Pendleton and La Grande.

What you will do :

This position will independently plan and carry out personally, or by conducting others, complex park maintenance, operation, facility and resource conservation and / or interpretation tasks to protect, maintain, operate, repair and improve state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems within the Blue Mountain Management Unit .

Minimum Qualifications :

Four years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs;

special events and activities; etc.) AND / OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

  • A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies AND 1 year of visitor services experience (e.
  • g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities;

etc.) AND / OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

  • An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 2.
  • 5 years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs;

special events and activities; etc.) AND / OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements :

  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
  • You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment.

  • Skills and knowledge of complex overnight park resource and facility operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in leading complex park projects including construction and maintenance.
  • Skill in Verbal Judo or similar tactical communications method.
  • Skill in maintaining composure and taking appropriate action during emergency or emotionally-charged situations.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer including OPRD specific software or similar. Such as : OPRIS, ORMS, Etc.
  • Skill in evaluating situations, applying rules and guidelines, determining and carrying out appropriate course of action to achieve desired results.
  • Skill in leading individuals or groups in accomplishing different and varied tasks to achieve park specific unit, district or region goals.
  • Skill in administering contractual agreements and writing procurements to ensure that products and services are delivered as specified.
  • Skill in mentoring, coaching and training employees in park maintenance, operation and interpretive skills.

  • The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.

95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS. If you are not yet PERS eligible, the 6.95% pay increase and employee contribution will be effective upon PERS eligibility.
