Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Food Manager, Dietetics Assistant Director, Dietetics Director, and Staff Services Manager I, the Food Service Supervisor I is responsible for supervising and instructing employees and helpers from the client population in serving meals, and cleaning and maintaining work areas, equipment, and utensils;

may instruct, lead, or supervise patients, clients, or resident workers, and do other related work.

This position is not eligible for telework, this position is in person only.

DDS-Porterville Developmental Center administers a promotional Food Service Supervisor I examination, which is limited to State employees who meet the criteria to take this promo exam.

Working Conditions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Must possess and maintain satisfactory strength, agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement.

Must have full range of body motion and be able to lift, push and pull. Corrected vision must be to normal range. Manual, finger dexterity / hand-eye coordination required.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. May involve heavy lifting up to 50 pounds maximum, combined with pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, grabbing, carrying, kneeling, twisting and reaching at, or above, shoulder level.

Includes sitting, standing and walking most of the time, with or working on, irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Ongoing interaction with clients, personnel and the public. Working with chemicals, loud noises, hot / cold temperatures and may work around wet surfaces.

As situations arise, working with staff shortages may be required, and rotating shifts or alternate shifts / days as necessary to complete required work.

Position requires use of telephones and computers, may involve working with sensitive information, which requires maintaining confidentiality.

Required to work under stressful conditions at times. Like all employees of Porterville Developmental Center, may have contact with clients who have unpredictable behaviors and may be required to assist as trained with client containment / restraint.

Potential exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, pesticides and cleaning chemicals.

Special Requirements

Selected candidates are subject to special requirements. This position is required to complete a medical evaluation.
