MFNI Associate Director of Academic Affairs

The Maternal, Fetal, & Neonatal Institute (MFNI) at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking a candidate to hold the position of Associate Director of Academic Affairs (ADAA).

The MFNI ADAA role encompasses both clinical and administrative responsibilities as a MFNI leader in education, mentoring, and career development.

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital is a 259 bed teaching hospital and is the number one children's hospital in Florida according to U.

S. News & World Report (2023-2024). JHACH ranked nationally in seven pediatric specialty areas with top 50 recognition in : Neonatology, Cancer, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Pulmonology and Lung Surgery and Orthopaedics.

JHACH seeks an established academic leader with experience in scholarly contributions and appreciation in research and education.

The MFNI ADAA will report to the Director of the Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute. The MFNI ADAA will provide guidance to faculty in career advancement and, in collaboration with the MFNI Director and Fellowship Director, will oversee faculty and trainee education.

She / He will provide mentoring to faculty and work with them in pursuit of promotions, awards, election and / or membership in national organizations, and other means career advancement across the JHM missions of research, clinical care and education.

The Associate Director of Academic Affairs should be a practicing clinician at the associate professor or professor rank and have an outstanding record of research and / or education achievement and mentoring.

Specifically, the MFNI Director of Academic Affairs will :

  • Develop, grow, and oversee MFNI educational programming and career development resources.
  • In collaboration with fellowship and rotation directors, provide oversight of medical student, resident, and fellow educational programs with attention to faculty engagement and skills development.
  • Review, update, and oversee the MFNI promotional review process;
  • Determine faculty readiness for appointment and promotion and assist faculty with the appointment and promotion processes;
  • Monitor faculty progress toward achieving career goals and serve as a resource for faculty members on topics of faculty development and as an advisor to faculty in need of objective career mentoring;
  • Provide individual and group mentoring for JHACH based full-time and part-time Johns Hopkins faculty on issues related to appointments, promotions and career development;
  • In partnership with the Office of Vice Dean and the Office of Medical Education, provide guidance and professional development sessions to all JHACH providers;
  • In partnership with the MFNI director, assess readiness and facilitate timely nomination of faculty for JH and external research, clinical and education awards, including :
  • Recommendation and support of faculty for academic honor societies (e.g. Society for Pediatric Research, American Pediatric Society, The National Academy of Medicine previously IOM);
  • assist nominated faculty with the application process; and connect faculty to former award recipients;
  • Recommendation and support of faculty for departmental and institutional awards and local and national leadership development programs in the domains of clinical care, research and education (e.
  • g., Dean's Office Clinical Excellence Awards, Dean's Office Leadership Development Program, Association of American Medical Colleges, Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine, Institute for Excellence in Education, The Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence);
  • Seek membership on JHACH committees, as appropriate;
  • Serve as an Advisory Member for the Center for Research, Training, Education, Engagement, and Mentorship (C-TEEM) at JHACH;
  • Make periodic presentations on the state of JHACH faculty development and promotions;
  • Provide clinical care as a member of the MFNI team.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Florida.
  • Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in his / her respective specialty.
  • Minimum of 7 years of academic experience.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
