Position Overview :

Roambee is looking for a hands-on Embedded Systems Engineering Manager to directly contribute to and lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge IoT devices.

This role is vital in driving the innovation of Roambee’s proprietary operating system while ensuring seamless integration with 3rd party trackers.

The ideal candidate is an engineer first a player-coach who excels in leading by example and thrives in hands-on work alongside their team.

We are seeking someone who enjoys solving complex problems and is not interested in a role focused solely on delegation or project management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Prototyping & Design :
  • Actively lead and participate in the hands-on design and prototyping of new IoT devices tailored to Roambee's business needs.
  • Develop embedded software and hardware, optimizing for performance, low power consumption, and connectivity.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and tech providers specializing in batteries, cellular connectivity, and RF technologies to co-design and develop new devices.
  • Operating System Development :
  • Drive and directly contribute to the enhancement of Roambee’s proprietary IoT operating system, ensuring compatibility with both Roambee and 3rd party tracking devices.
  • Oversee and actively engage in the development cycles, including coding, testing, and deployment of new features and updates.
  • Team Leadership :
  • Lead a distributed team of engineers through hands-on involvement, providing technical mentorship and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Focus on coaching and guiding the team by solving problems together, with an emphasis on hands-on leadership rather than delegation.
  • Cloud Integration :
  • Work closely with the cloud engineering team to ensure seamless communication and data exchange between IoT devices and Roambee’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop and optimize communication protocols to improve device-cloud integration.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships :
  • Act as a technical leader in working with 3rd party hardware manufacturers, collaborating closely to meet Roambee’s technical requirements.
  • Stay on top of new technologies and integrate advancements such as battery tech, RF, and cellular innovations into Roambee’s IoT devices.
  • Documentation & Compliance :
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, including design specs, test plans, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure Roambee devices are certified with relevant industry bodies, guiding the certification process.
  • Edge Computing & AI :
  • Develop and optimize edge algorithms and AI models to run directly on IoT devices, enhancing performance and delivering advanced features.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to deploy machine learning models on devices for applications like predictive maintenance and real-time analytics.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in embedded systems design, with a focus on IoT devices.
  • Proven technical leadership with an emphasis on solving problems and developing embedded systems, not just managing teams or projects.
  • Expertise in hardware / software co-design, particularly for low-power, connectivity-driven IoT devices.
  • Strong experience with embedded OS (RTOS) and full development cycles, including coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Deep knowledge of communication protocols (Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRa, LTE-M, NB-IoT) and their application in IoT devices.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cloud teams for seamless IoT device integration.
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining technical documentation for certification and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with AI and machine learning models deployed at the edge.
  • Familiarity with IoT industry certifications and regulatory standards.
