Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Quality Assurance Manager at Gills Onions in Oxnard, CA. The Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tasks related to ensuring the quality and safety of fresh-cut onion products.

This includes implementing and maintaining quality control systems, conducting inspections and audits, analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage food safety and QA programs to ensure FDA / FSMA compliance
  • Facility regulatory and customer requested audits; serve as the SQF practitioner
  • Act as the recall co-coordinator; perform routine mock recall scenarios
  • Design, implement, and document procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection (HACCP, SOPs and GMPs)
  • Manage finished product testing and Hold and Release program
  • Review and maintain supplier approval documentation
  • Maintain data in customer quality portals (Food Log IQ, Azzule, etc.)
  • Present training programs including GMP, HACCP, and food safety training
  • Perform risk assessments for packaging, chemicals and raw materials used
  • Manage customer complaints and identify and implement corrective actions
  • Motivate, lead and direct the microbiology and QA departments
  • Lead internal audits to ensure regulatory, customer and corporate policy conformance
  • Create and implement finished product specifications in accordance with customer needs and requirements

  • Experience with implementing and maintaining quality control systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and certifications
  • Experience in the fresh produce or food processing industry is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work weekends when necessary
