Under general supervision, develops, directs and supervises a forestry program for all County Park facilities. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing a forestry and tree maintenance program.
The work involves setting priorities, developing programs, overseeing tree care and training personnel in tree care, pesticide use, forest fire fighting, invasive pest management Supervision may be exercised over subordinate maintenance staff.
Does related work as required. Required Either (a) A Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Forestry Resource Management, Environmental Sciences or a related field and 3 years of technical forestry experience, or (b) Master's Degree as described in (a) and 2 years of technical forestry experience.
Substitutions Certification as an ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Arborist Municipal Specialist may be substituted for all of the required experience.
Special Requirements Depending on work assignment, applicant must possess New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Certification in categories 2 and 3A;
or must be able to obtain NYS DEC Certification within 6 months in order to pass probationary period. Special Requirements (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.
Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. (2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.
Special Notes Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.
