2B Main PACU

Pre-Operative / Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) houses 20 pre-operative (pre-op) bays and 17 PACU bays on Denver Health's main campus, as well as 14 pre-op and 14 PACU bays in our Outpatient Surgery Center.

This is a fast-paced department, and we pride ourselves on excellent nursing care during the pre- and post-operative period in the perioperative process.

Our nurses care for a wide variety of patients from pediatric to geriatric, and same day surgery to surgical intensive care.

In addition to our 16 operating rooms, our team also prepares and recovers patients from our gastrointestinal, Cardiac Catherization Lab, interventional radiology, bronchoscopy, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) procedural areas as well as being a back-up for labor and delivery C-sections.

Pre-op nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 3 and PACU nurse-to patient ratio is 1 : 2.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Project Administrator provides administrative support to the department. Serving as a resource to the Managers, Directors, and Staff while also serving as the Patient Liaison.

Essential job duties include, but are not limited to, daily management of Time & Attendance, bi-weekly payroll, new employee onboarding, and employee personnel file management.

In addition, the role contributes to the development, roll-out, and support of divisional initiatives and improvement projects on the unit or division as needed.

Assist Leadership with annual appraisals, reconciliation of required employee licensure / certifications and required annual Cornerstone completions.

The Project Administrator also serves as the Patient Liaison by greeting patients and their Designated Responsible Persons (DRP) and serving as a representative between DRPs and the staff, while maintaining the service recovery needs of the department and managing crowd control and communications when large families present to the hospital.

Provides resources to Denver Health's Hospital Chaplains, Social Workers, or other hospital resources if necessary.

Essential Functions :

  • Reviews staffing sheets daily to ensure accurate coding of all staff timecards for employee payment and unit productivity (Education, Orientation Coding, FML, LOA). (15%)
  • Rounds with the DRPs in the waiting area / PreOp and gives updates throughout the visit. Rounds in the ORs and obtains updates from the Circulator during the procedure.

Rounds in the recovery room and obtains updates from the bedside RN to be able to provide recovery updates to the DRPs. (15%)

Onboarding new employees based on the department needs, including the creation of binders, assigning mailbox and locker, and add new staff to internal documents, distribution lists and reports.

The same functions are supported when staff leave the department and / or Denver Health. (10%)

  • Supports Denver Health Bi-weekly payroll process, reviewing all timecards for accuracy. (10%)
  • Manages Employee personnel files confirming that all documentation required by regulatory bodies is up to date and organized based on DH / JC standards.

Maintain all staff medical files with adherence to the DH / JC standards. (10%)

  • Assess DRP needs and uses all resources to resolve any customer service recovery issues. Assists in ensuring a positive patient experience and keeps staff informed of any potential problems. (10%)
  • Management of paper and electronic records, creation and management of spreadsheets and databases (call down lists, team assignments, evaluations, outlook distribution lists, CSI spreadsheets, Overtime reports, Absence / tardy reports).

Place and manage engineering work orders and Help Desk tickets as requested. (10%)

Produce reports for department KPIs, compile information and, at times, analyze and communicate results. Perform and oversee special projects, including both divisional and unit level projects.

Assist with the acquisition of new products. (10%)

  • Help design and execute additional visual management boards as needed, including employee engagement, education and clinical excellence. (5%)
  • Greets and receives patients and DRPs into the healthcare setting by serving as a representative between the DRPs and the staff.

Assists in the referring to Hospital Chaplin, Social Worker or other hospital resources as necessary. (5%)

Education :

High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience :

1-3 years Three years' experience in Customer Relations / Services. Required

Licenses :

BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to provide general administrative and clerical support to leaders.
  • Knowledge of time and attendance tracking and editing practices.
  • Possess excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in managing high volume workload from multiple leaders. Ability to organize time in order to effectively manage simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to create, store, edit, format, print, and revise tables, reports, forms, and other printed material using the available software.
  • Recognizes, initiates, leads and evaluates improvement efforts through initiative, judgement, tact and discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and API or other time and attendance tracking software.
