Summary :
Under the general direction of a Supervisor, performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, alteration and maintenance of all high and low voltage electrical equipment systems;
does related work as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Lays out, installs and maintains wiring, cables, switches and light fixtures.
- Maintains and repairs electrical control systems for all heating and ventilation equipment.
- Installs, maintains and repairs recording devices, public address systems and similar systems.
- Reviews, analyzes, maintains and repairs electrical systems and equipment.
- Wires and repairs computer systems integration, service meters and switch panels, distribution and transformer pumps, surveillance and security systems, alarms, and controls.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems throughout all City buildings, schools, and operations.
- Reads electrical schematic drawings and blueprints, when available.
- Performs necessary emergency work outside regular working hours, when required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : Graduation from an accredited high school and possession of a valid Connecticut E2 journeyman electrical license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER ATTRIBUTES :
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in the electrical field.
- Knowledge of the function and operation of electrical systems, equipment and controls.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code and OSHA regulations related to electrical work.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in making electrical repairs and installations.
- Ability to wire and repair high and low voltage electrical equipment and systems.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
