We are looking for a Financial Reporting Accountant to perform highly complex (senior-level) professional financial and accounting work in the Financial Reporting Section.
The work will involve coordinating accounting and related activities to ensure timely and accurate reconciliations, preparation of financial analyses and reports, establishing and maintaining accounting procedures and controls, and assisting in preparation of the ERS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
This person will work under limited supervision of the Financial Reporting Supervisor with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Oversee and / or prepare, process, and audit general journal entries, including the monthly state retirement contribution draw for General State pension, agency contributions ledger corrections, and fund allocation entries.
- Monitor and reconcile agency default funds, pension and benefits appropriation budgets, and interest accounts.
- Monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts for Retirement / Pension funds, Excess Benefits Arrangements, Service Purchases, etc.
- Coordinate and communicate with State Agencies regarding Retirement / Pension accounting discrepancies and corrections.
- Assist in the preparation of the agency's ACFR including fiscal year-end tasks.
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Assist with special projects, research requests, and ad-hoc reporting needs from internal and external sources.
- Serve as a back-up for key functions of the team.
- Data entry and reconciliations of accounting transactions in the ERS financial systems and into the Uniformed Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
- Assist in the compilation and preparation of information for Legislative Budget Board Reporting, GASB Reporting, and Agency Fiscal Certifications.
- Create and update standard operating procedures for the Financial Reporting Section.
Required Minimum Qualifications : Your application for employment must reflect how you meet each of the following minimum qualifications :
1.Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field is preferred.
Each year of additional work experience can substitute for one year (30 semester hours) of college credit.
2.Two (2) years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or other related experience.This should include experience with creating general ledger entries and generating financial reports (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications : Your application for employment should reflect how you meet the following preferred qualifications :
3.Experience maintaining an accounting system (e.g., chart of accounts, profiles, batch jobs, report development).
4.Experience with GASB / FASB implementation and compliance.
5.Experience with PeopleSoft Financials.
6.Accounting experience with a Texas state agency and / or experience with the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
