Description
The Assistant Director provides individual appointment-based career counseling / advising sessions for students and alumni on all career-related topics - including but not limited to : self-assessments, networking, graduate school advising, LinkedIn, cover letters, resumes, mock interviews, solidifying academic majors / change of majors, and administer and interpret career and academic-based outcome self-assessments to support student development.
Research, create, manage, and deliver workshops, academic class presentations, and other related events. Oversee the employer relations processes, procedures, and relationships with local and regional employers and serve as the lead conduit on campus to connect facutly with employers to forge relationships for students (full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities).
Attend employer relations professional development opportunities. Attend to the office's technology needs - including periodic updates to databases, platforms, and portals used to support the operation of the Career Center.
Utilize social media for the office - sometimes working in conjunction with other team members also involved with the office's social media process.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual appointment-based career counseling / advising sessions for students and alumni on career-related topics.
- Work with students exploring and identifying academic majors and career interests.
- Manage, oversee, and supervise, the Career Center's employer relations practices, procedures, and relationships with employers - both locally and regionally - as well as with other off-campus constituents.
- Serve as the college's lead conduit connecting faculty and campus partners with employers in order to forge relations for students in full-time, part-time, and internship capacities.
- Handle data imports for Handshake, system upgrades, and stay current regarding upcoming technology changes and new platforms within the industry.
- Maintain awareness of trends in job search strategies, job market trends, employer relations, and talent acquisition methodologies, internship programs, and the application of technology in the delivery of related services.
- Contact and visit prospective employers (locally and regionally, in-person and virtually) to familiarize them with Springfield College (student demographics, majors, employment services, and possible collaborations efforts).
- Proactively build relationships independently with employers in growth industries to identify employers and employment opportunities to determine their immediate, short, and long-term staffing needs.
- Serve as a primary contact for employers posting job opportunities and manage / oversee job posting process and reporting.
- Manage the process with employers to organize on-campus recruiting initiatives or information sessions on campus. Identify employer-related workshops, panel discussions, and other venues and host employers on campus - including but not limited to career and networking fairs
- Render individual appointment-based career counseling / advising sessions to students and alumni on all career-related topics - including but not limited to : self-assessment, networking, ATS, AI, Chat-GPT, LinkedIn, cover letters, resumes, conduct mock interviews, advise students and provide guidance on engaged learning opportunities.
- Participate in divisional and college venues - including search committees, strategic plans, participate in Student Affairs divisional commitments and event (such as family weekend, NSO Carnival, orientation, graduation, etc.
and campus-wide events such as admissions recruiting visits, speakers, etc. as they arise.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required with 3-5 years of directly related experience. Master’s degree preferred in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Business or a closely-related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technology, social media, database, and platform management knowledge - including systems and infrastructure.
Fluent in career development and employer trends / standards including but not limited to : life-long development, gender, age and ethnic background, employer recruiting related services, job market and hiring trends with employers, engaged learning and internship processes for students and employers, current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise, strategies to make reasoned, informed career choices, graduate / professional programs, and the application and selection process, skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications, career options through internships, shadowing, cooperative education, recruiting, job posting, resume referrals and job fairs, budgeting and fiscal management principles and procedures, higher education policies and procedures, student career support, technology, interpersonal / human relations skills, verbal and written communication skills, management and supervisory skills, and counseling / advising skills.
