Job Summary
UCSF Fitness and Recreation operates two fitness centers at UCSF. We provide fitness and wellbeing services to UCSF Students, Faculty, Staff and Community members through a broad range of fitness, recreation, aquatics, personal training, outdoor programs, and health and wellness programs.

We are a customer service division, providing needed services on all UCSF campus sites and delivering these services with PRIDE : Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.
The Lead Lifeguard works under direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics unit, which include customer service, patron safety, pool maintenance, emergency procedures / evacuations, and daily safety checks of the swimming pools, and surrounding areas.
The Lead Lifeguard also assists with the supervision of aquatics programs and related administrative duties as required.
The Lead Lifeguard assists in the delivery of lifeguard training and in-service trainings.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $23.59 - $32.30 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Excellent lifeguarding skills and knowledge
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Responsible, accountable, and punctual
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill maintaining pool facilities
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of UCSF policies and procedures
License / Certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding / First Aid / CPR / AED Certificate (required)
- American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) (active or obtained within 1 year of hire) (required)
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (active or obtained within 1 year of hire) (required)
- American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) Instructor (active or obtained within 1 year of hire) (required)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (active or obtained within 1 year of hire) (required)
- Certified Pool Operation Certification (active or obtained within 12 months of hire) (preferred)
