Position Title : Director of Development
Job Summary : The Development Director will work under the direction of the Corps Officer with a dotted reported line to the Divisional Development Director in the development of fundraising campaigns, capital campaigns, foundation, and private grants.
The Development Director will also assist the Corps Officer in developing and maintaining a strong, active, and involved Advisory Board.
Develop and present presentations to civic and service groups / organizations.
Reports To : Corps Officer(s)
Qualifications :
Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.
Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver’s license.
Education :
Bachelor’s degree required with significant experience in related work.
Experience :
A minimum of two years’ experience in development, marketing, community relations or sales. Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships.
Able to build trusted relationships with internal staff and volunteers (Advisory Board) and external stakeholders. Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
Foundation and grant writing experience. Familiarity with CRM databases and ability to learn new software as needed. Highly organized, analytical.
Eligibility to join the Association of Professional Fundraisers (AFP) and abide by the Fundraiser’s Code of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
- Demonstrated awareness of budget resources and cost control, as well as planning and administering budgets.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet, and Social Media platforms.
- Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.

Essential Responsibilities :
- Develop a strategic plan for direction and implementation of local fundraising campaigns and community relations.
- Develop a strong donor cultivation plan by working with the Divisional Development team which includes the Divisional Development Director, Major Gifts, and Planned Giving.
- Implement a tracking mechanism for all grant and donor proposals.
- Provide monthly contact reports for meaningful contact with donors, media, corporations, foundations, etc.
- Maintain and record all donor actions into the Divisional / Territorial CRM database.
- Manages and monitors the effectiveness of direct mail and makes recommendations to the Corps Officer.
- Attend Advisory Board meetings and serve as a liaison for Advisory Board development, attendance and recognition, orientation, and other related board activity.
- Assume overall responsibility for the creation, planning and implementation of special events (, annual civic dinner) and other events fostering public awareness, donor cultivation and recognition activities.
- Maintain professional status and current knowledge in development, community, and public relations fields.
- Individually and with support staff, presents the story, mission and needs of The Salvation Army to community leaders, groups, organizations, and media.
- Create, prepare, and communicate marketing material and press releases as appropriate.
- Establish and meet realistic daily, weekly, and monthly expectations for personal contacts with potential donors, prospective volunteer resources, and other potential benefactors of The Salvation Army.
- Attends quarterly Divisional Development meetings.

- Support local programing, special events and holiday activities as directed.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
- Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s Safe from Harm Certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to work in Development.
Travel may be required.
Position Ranking :
Regular Full Time, Exempt, Salary Range $60,000 to $65,000 Annually
Physical Demands / Work Environment :
This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit, and use hands.
Individual must be able to regularly lift to 30 pounds and occasionally lift to fifty pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary.
Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings.
There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
