The Opportunity :
The Hardware Systems Engineer plans, designs, manages and / or performs activities related to the design, fabrication, operation, reverse engineering and digital replication of advanced engineering products and systems.
Utilizes knowledge of manufacturing systems, electromechanical systems, and materials in aerospace engineering technical areas (propulsion, composite materials, controls).
Utilizes knowledge of mechanical engineering technologies (robotics, computer-numerical control systems), and additive / digital manufacturing (3D printing, laser cutter systems) to support educational initiatives for project teams.
Responsibilities :
Set up, prepare and calibrate additive manufacturing (3D) printers for production runs.
Manage hardware engineering materials, equipment, and specialized parts inventory process for the department.
Consult with project teams on robotics and motorized systems design and build up to ensure optimal performance of mechanical and aerospace equipment systems.
Ensure adequate supply of materials (engineering equipment and components) on hand to meet production demands and issue materials to project teams.
Ensure quality control by inspecting the project team(s) finished products for defects and ensure they meet project specifications.
Design and fabricate complex mechanical and aerospace equipment, systems.
Manage equipment procurement and installation.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of aerospace systems (Drones, UAVs, etc.) or the ability to rapidly gain such exposure.
Knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing, Additive Manufacturing, Aerospace Vehicle flight mechanics, robotics and digital controls.
Experience mentoring junior engineers in an educational environment.
Experience supervising part-time employees or work-study students is a plus.
