Job Summary

The Director provides leadership for all aspects of Financial Aid. The Director is responsible for directing, coordinating, supporting, supervising, and overseeing all aspects of the financial aid operation under the direction of the Dean of Enrollment Services.

The Director is responsible for outreach, retention, compliance, efficiency and supervision of all financial aid staff. Responsibilities also include analyzing and interpreting existing, new, and pending legislation and information from the U.

S. Department of Education and other regulatory agencies. The Director constantly monitors student service and ensures that continuous improvement occurs at all levels of the operation.

The Director is part of an Enrollment Center Leadership Team located in the GCC Enrollment Center building dedicated to enrollment service.

Essential Functions

25% - Leadership :

The Director is responsible for directing, coordinating, supporting, supervising, and overseeing all aspects of the financial aid operation under the direction of the Dean of Enrollment Services.

The Director is responsible for outreach, retention, compliance, efficiency and supervision of all financial aid staff, as well as analyzing and interpreting existing, new, and pending legislation and information from the U.

S. Department of Education, Veterans Affairs, and other regulatory agencies. The Director constantly monitors student service and ensures that continuous improvement occurs at all levels of the operation.

25% - Compliance and Awarding :

  • Plans, directs and administers a coordinated district wide financial assistance program; reviews applications, examines needs, resources, federal and state regulations and assists in providing financial information to students;
  • assists students in completing applications; processes applications for financial aid including determining eligibility, award amounts and notification of students award;

serve as the point of contact and subject matter expert in audit and regulation review both in planning and response. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations.

Plans for and implements new aspects of programs affected by federal or state legislation changes. Interprets complex federal and state regulations related to educational benefits.

Plans for and implements all aspects of programs, such as work-study.

25% - Supervision :

  • Supervises financial aid staff who perform a variety of technical and service duties to assure eligible students receive available funding and educational services;
  • serve as a technical resource concerning financial aid programs and services; review, verify and process related forms and applications;

train and provide work direction to temporary and work-study staff involved with intake and processing financial aid documents.

Monitor, research, and conduct in-depth analysis of like organizations and current studies in order to stay abreast and up to date on themes and actions related to financial aid in higher education.

20% - Reporting :

Duties include program assessment and planning; tracking statistical data; compiling reports. Set program goals and manage operating budgets.

Ensure expenditure of monies received from local, state, and federal resources. Monitors degree progress and satisfactory academic progress.

Ensures adherence to a number of federal and state reporting requirements. In conjunction with Institutional Research & Planning, monitor statistics and data related to military-connected students at GCC and national trends.

5% - Liaison :

Ability to develop and maintain collegial and collaborative relationships with the State Approving Agency, Educational Liaisons, and other state and federal agencies.

Represent GCC in local, state, and national professional organizations and establish collaborative relationships and processes with the Maricopa County Community College District Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and four years of related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in Business, Management, Administration, Education, or another related field

B. Has five (5) or more years' experience with student Financial Aid services

C. Has more than three (3) years' experience with federal and state financial aid, such as Title IV, FAFSA, and student loan programs

D. Has more than three (3) years' experience in a managerial or supervisory role, demonstrating the ability to lead and develop a team

E. Has more than three (3) years of proficiency with financial aid management systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, or PowerFAIDS) and student information systems

F. Has more than three (3) years analyzing and interpreting financial aid data and trends, and to use this information to make informed decisions

Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving : http : / / www.
