Position Title : Math Teacher - Full Time
FLSA Classification : Exempt; 10-Month Instructional
Monday - Friday, 8AM to 3 : 15 PM
Reports To : High School Program Coordinator
Position Purpose : To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contributes to their educational and social development.
The mathematic curriculum must be adapted based on the students IEP’s goals allowing students to learn at their own pace and build confidence with the content of the material.
With support, you will implement UEB, Nemeth Code and Assistive Technology in the daily lesson plans.
Essential Functions :
- Instructs students in math concepts, algebra and geometry and other high school math courses
- Instructs students in all educational programs
- Develops and implements instructional plans compatible with the school's Math curriculum
- With support of a TVI, incorporates UEB, Nemeth Code and technology in the daily lesson plans
- Administers math assessments to students and provides a report with results
- Prepares and maintains students IEP’s goals; collects data, assesses and maintains student’s math records
- Makes sure the assignments are clear; summarizes the main point(s) of the lesson at the end of the lesson and / or instructional activity
- Participates in IEP / Team meetings to identify student’s needs, accommodations and IEP development related to student math needs
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and submit to the Program Coordinator weekly
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, preferred
- PA Certification in Math (Gr 7-12) and willingness to obtain Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification if not currently certified.
- 0-3 Years of Experience with instruction at the high school level
- 0-3 Years of Experience teaching math to students with special needs and visual impairments, preferred.
- Communication skills (oral and written) and confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, other staff members and students.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and handle frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates good judgment and dependability.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment :
- Requires prolonged standing, walking, twisting and squatting on a constant basis
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Repetitive motion of the finger, hands and wrist.
