Job Description : Electrical Apprentice
Reports To : Crew leader / Supervisor
Classification : Non-Exempt
General Description :
As an Electrical Apprentice, you will embark on a learning journey to gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge in the field of electrical work.
Under the guidance of experienced electricians and instructors, you will assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems across various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
Duties :
Learning and Development : Your primary focus as an Electrical Apprentice is to absorb knowledge and skills related to electrical work.
You will attend classroom instruction sessions and participate in on-the-job training to learn about electrical theory, safety practices, tools and equipment usage, and industry standards and regulations.
Assisting Electricians : You will work alongside journeyman electricians and other experienced professionals to support them in various tasks.
This includes carrying tools and materials, performing basic electrical installations, and assisting with maintenance and repair activities under supervision.
- Safety and Compliance : Maintaining a safe work environment is essential in the electrical field. You will learn about safety protocols, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations while on job sites.
- Tool and Equipment Maintenance : Proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment are crucial for efficiency and safety.
You will learn how to clean, inspect, and organize tools, as well as how to handle and store equipment properly to prolong their lifespan and ensure they are always ready for use.
Documentation and Record-Keeping : Accurate record-keeping is an important aspect of the apprenticeship. You will document your training hours, tasks performed, skills acquired, and progress made throughout the program.
This documentation may be required for certification and future career opportunities.
- Communication and Collaboration : Effective communication and teamwork are essential in the electrical industry. You will interact with supervisors, coworkers, and instructors to ask questions, seek guidance, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
- Complete other duties at the discretion of management.
Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in an accredited electrical apprenticeship program or vocational training.
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts and principles (preferred but not required).
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and climbing.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to safety guidelines at all times.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to overhead position.
- Must be able to push and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the balance and dexterity to maneuver around a construction site and must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be drug and alcohol free.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, and climb ladders throughout complete shift.
- Positive attitude and team player
- Adhering to all safety policies, including wearing safety harness and other required equipment.
- Ability to withstand different climates (extreme heat and other weather).
- Ability to see.
