Overview
Plant Lead
The Plant Lead at Sheffield Metals will oversee all daily operations of the plant from production and manufacturing to ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
The Plant Lead will develop processes that will maximize safety, quality, and productivity with an emphasis on leadership and employee development.
The Plant Lead will ensure all procedures and processes for completing shop orders accurately and timely according to company methods and standards.
Responsibilities
1. Overall management of plant operations to ensure key metrics are obtained (on time delivery, product yield, product quality, employee efficiency, safety)
2. Planning, organizing, directing and running optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations
3. Spend a minimum of 50% of the workday on the production floor guiding, mentoring, and coaching the production team
4. Increasing production assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standard
5. Work closely with sales team to ensure effective working relationship between sales and operations
6. Allocate labor force effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
7. Implement strategies that are in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide clarity and focus for the team
8. Implement LEAN tools or processes across the facility
9. Build a trusting relationship with the team through coaching and consistency while continuing to recruit and build a stronger, cohesive team
10. Collect and analyze data to improve existing KPIs and implement additional KPIs as appropriate
11. Implement and develop standards for quality and accuracy of manufacturing and fulfilling orders
12. Generate work orders, production and packing lists as needed
13. Count, record and report inventory for all warehoused material as documented procedures
14. Report defective or substandard material, supplies or products
15. Maintain work area, equipment and tools using 5S methodology
16. Ensure all safety related activities (safety talks, training, improvement projects, forklift daily checklists, are completed on time for self and team
17. Represent Company in all daily interactions with customers, vendors, freight personnel and other employees
18. Ensure employees’ safety and environmental concerns are addressed
19. Oversee shop equipment and preventative maintenance schedules
20. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
A high school diploma or GED is required; trade school or military experience preferred
Experience & Skills
- Proven manufacturing managerial experience
- Experience in conflict resolution, direct labor utilization, budgeting, maintaining equipment, maintenance schedules of mission critical equipment
- Ability to identify bottlenecks and determine effective solutions
- Ability to identify cost savings strategies and implement promptly and effectively
- Requires solid written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills are required
- High emotional IQ with demonstrated leadership experience
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Tow motor experience preferred
- Must be able to lift and / or pull a minimum of 25 pounds
- Strong math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) and ability to learn ERP
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify
- Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills
