DEPARTMENT : Communications Department
LOCATION : SONC office in Morrisville
REPORTS TO : Director of Digital Media
PRIMARY PURPOSE : To handle day-to-day communications, writing and design assignments
and public relations initiatives for the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES :
- Assist in implementation of SONC communication plans.
- Possess exceptional writing and presentation skills to showcase the impact of the Special Olympics movement.
- Oversee the production of all publications and print materials.
- Create social media content as well as oversee organizational social media strategy.
- Write and edit material for SONC internal and external publications and website as needed.
- Write news releases, media kits, fact sheets and other materials. Interface with media as assigned.
- Recruit and supervise volunteers who serve as Media Representatives.
- Assist in management of SONC Global Messengers Program.
- Maintain newspaper clippings report for the organization.
- Manage ceremonies and special events including writing scripts and overall choreography of functions.
- Assist in coordination of honored guest functions for state-level events.
- Assist with writing minutes of SONC Board meetings.
- Perform other tasks as assigned. The key accountabilities are not the exclusive requirements of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Required : Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; two years experience and / or combination of education or experience in communications, public relations, media relations and / or graphic design;
Excellent knowledge of language, grammar, punctuation, and style. Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines; working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, HTML, Word Press, Excel, Publisher; Ability to
possess / maintain valid NC driver’s license; Ability to travel as needed; Attend work regularly; Represent the Organization in a professional manner;
Attend Special Olympics competitions and related functions as assigned; Some night and weekend work and travel is required.
Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English.
SALARY : Starting at $47,000
