The Public Health Nurse (PHN) 3, under the guidance of PHN Supervisors / Managers assists in the supervision of staff and coordination of Wayne County's public health programs.
PHN 3 may work in various settings of the health department including the Immunization / Sexually Transmitted Infection Clinic, Tuberculosis Program, Communicable Disease Program, and Immunization / VFC Programs.
The PHN 3 supports the Public Health Nurse Supervisor / Administrator in the planning and implementation of new programs while also providing necessary direction to and supervision of professional, technical, and support staff for effective and efficient operations.
- The PHN 3 assures the highest-level quality and quantity of services to clients; works with other professionals and agencies to address public health concerns;
- assists in reporting and quality improvement activities, makes policy and program recommendations to the PHN Supervisor and / or Administrator;
provides training and orientation of new employees.* Provides supervision, support and services for respective program. Supervision of Public Health Nurse I / II, clerical and other support staff in various office and field settings.
- Performs duties of respective programs which may include case / contact investigation, infection prevention, medication administration and management, vaccine administration and management, specimen collection and packaging, assessing and treating patients per standing orders, health education and counseling, and care coordination.
- Provides case management or care / services as appropriate which may include acute clinic services, care coordination, referral and follow-up, contact investigation work, medication management, as well as ongoing physical and psychosocial assessment to individuals and families.
- Refers patients for additional medical, psychological, social care and / or other appropriate follow-up care. This may also include working directly with community providers, schools, or facilities.
- Assists the PHN Supervisor / Administrator with hiring process. Participates in the process of reviewing and recruiting applicants for available positions and in interviewing potential candidates.
