Job Summary
The Hospital Paramedic works under Prisma Health Ambulance Service with daily direction from the on-duty charge nurse and attending Physician.
The Hospital Paramedic will perform all duties identified in their job description including assessing and treating patients according to clinical operating guidelines.
They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested.
The Hospital Paramedic will provide for patient safety. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy.
Contributes to the growth and development of self and department. Maintains an active involvement. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff.
Maintains competence with charting system.
Accountabilities
Collects data and completes patient's orders utilizing appropriate area and / or age specific standards / policies and tools.
Completes appropriate forms. - 15%
Assesses and recognizes subtle or actual changes in patients' status and patient response to intervention. - 15%
Identifies patient priorities for patient plan of care and validates these priorities with the healthcare team members and documents appropriately. - 15%
Performs specific tasks based on organizational, departmental and / or unit policies and procedures within the Paramedic scope of practice. - 15%
Assumes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols and adherence to patient care standards. - 10%
Provides care based on patient and unit priorities, coordinating and organizing tasks as appropriate, utilizing known resources internal and external to the unit.- 10%
Utilizes appropriate technology in daily practice (EHR, Pyxis, Telemetry, Emergency equipment). - 5%
Identifies / assesses patient / family learning needs - 5%
Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives. - 5%
Attend meetings and in services as required by departmental policy. - 5%
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Certification Program. Current certification as a Paramedic per state requirements (The required active South Carolina and National Registry EMS certification meets the educational requirements for this role).
1 yr experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and / or clinical experience in a hospital
