CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT

OBJECTIVE : Assists nursing personnel in provision of basic care for residents and necessary unit tasks and functions in compliance with Penn Mar Therapeutic Centers policies, and procedures, applicable health care standards.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Candidate must have current and valid CNA nursing assistant CNA certification.
• Compassionate, mature, sympathetic and professional at all times.
• Good organization and communication skills
• Ability to read, write, understand and carry out directions in English.
• The candidate must successfully complete any / all required preemployment evaluation test(s) per policy.
• A health examination must be successfully completed prior to assignment to verify that he / she is free from communicable disease and physically capable of performing assigned duties.
• Ability to work as part of a team and to handle multiple tasks safely and effectively
• Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy (bedside manner)
• High tolerance for working under pressure and handling critical situations with a cool head

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Assists patients in the following areas :

• Assist and / or supervise with basic self-help skills such as personal hygiene and grooming.
• Function as co-therapist of group therapies such as communication, reality orientation, use of leisure time, exercise, etc.
• Assist Recreation Therapist with activities, with the approval of the Charge nurse
• Escort residents to consulting doctors or dental appointments, etc.
• Drive and / or escort patients to court for writs of habeus corpus, Reise or Conservatorship
• Therapeutically interacts with residents as part of therapeutic milieu.
• To assist medication nurse by taking vital signs. Measure height and weight and collect urine specimens if required.
• On the night shift, audit charts on a daily basis. Make chart packs.
• Chart in IDN notes on a shift basis on assigned residents, describing behaviors observed on that shift.
• Assist in admission process by showering and checking in property
• Adheres to infection control measure / s policies.
• Assist with passing out trays and collecting trays at meal times.
• Make daily rounds and monitor hallway to observe for physical and emotional safety of residents.
• Report any changes of patient condition to Charge nurse.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Charge nurse.
• Translates for Physicians and Social Work department if bilingual.
• Will promote and assure residents safety to attain and maintain highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
• Maintains confidentiality in relation to all clients, healthcare staff and documentation.
• Maintains and enhances skill through attending appropriate staff development training
• Appearance is professional and complies with agency dress code.
• Maintains a cooperative manner towards client / family and all members of the healthcare team.
