The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences is an academic unit within the Lloyd College of Health, Science, and Technology, seeking to serve a diverse student body, including military and international students, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service-learning activities.

The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentrations in pre-health, organismal biology, or molecular biology / biotechnology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Sciences.

The Department offers a minor program in Biology and Biotechnology. The Department has more than four hundred enrolled undergraduate students and seventeen tenured, tenure-track, or lecturer faculty members.

The Department of Biological and Forensic Science’s mission is to provide high-quality, student-centered academic programs and courses in the sciences at the undergraduate level.

In addition, the department provides each student with the opportunity to broaden his / her knowledge before deciding on a specific profession and being committed to discovering and disseminating knowledge in the fields of Biological Sciences.

Primary Purpose of the Position :

The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences invites applicants for a tenure track position as an Assistant of Microbiology effective Fall .

The successful applicant will have a doctorate in Microbiology or a closely related field. Experience teaching introduction to biology, microbiology, and biotechnology courses at an undergraduate / graduate university and / or community college will be a plus.

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in microbiology and general biology, cellular biology, biotechnology and, develop and teach new courses in the Biology Program, advise / mentor students, serve in department, college, and university committees, and assist in building and maintaining professional relationships with local, regional, and national laboratories and law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the candidate is expected to establish an active, externally funded research program involving undergraduate students.

Description of Work Continued : Teaching : (60%)

Teach a variety of undergraduate courses.Teach classes in microbiology, introduction to biology, biotechnology, scientific writing / communication, and related disciplines that meet the standard FSU workload policy.

Contribute to curriculum development.

Research : (20%) Conduct research, publish, and write grants.Develop a robust research program involving collaboration with students and faculty.

Perform scholarly activities consistent with their mit to maintaining a productive program of scholarship in microbiology.

Engage in research and training activities within professional societies and related.

Service : (20%) Contribute to ongoing programmatic development within the Department of Biological and Forensic Science and the College of Health, Science, and Technology.

Serve as a mentor and / or student organization advisor for undergraduate students, guiding their professional and personal development and academic progress.

Actively participate in departmental, college, university, community, and professional service consistent with the goals of the Department, College, and mitment to contribute to the strategic initiatives of the Department, College, and University Minimum Education and Experience Requirements : A doctorate in microbiology or a closely related field and a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of a tenure-track Assistant Professor.
