The DEIA & Workforce Development Specialist is an experienced educator and is responsible for maintaining the standards of SJCH’s talent by providing comprehensive training at the start of employment and throughout the employee’s lifecycle with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility principles engrained and sustained therein.

They develop curriculum and use a variety of methods to update employees on SJCH goals and procedures, including in-person and virtual facilitation of seminars, workshops, group exercises, and individual training sessions.

The DEIA & Workforce Development Specialist supports SJCH in the following functional areas : onboarding, career development, succession planning, and project management by assessing needs, designing programs, delivering training, evaluating effectiveness, and maintaining records.

Additionally, this role will take the lead in formulating and executing strategies, programs and initiatives designed to cultivate an environment where every employee is cherished, respected and empowered to contribute their unique viewpoints and life experiences.

Education & Experience

  • 3-5 years of proven experience in a teaching or corporate training position, instructional design, curriculum development and training delivery, including knowledge of the latest corporate training and adult learning techniques, preferred, or its equivalent through training, education and other related field experience.
  • Training & Development certification (i.e. CPLP or CPTD), preferred; Human Resources certification, a plus;
  • Experience with DEIA, including implementing successful DEIA strategies and programs; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Inclusive Leadership, Accessibility, and Belonging certifications, a plus;
  • Strong data and interpretation skills, with the ability to use metrics to drive decision-making and measure the impact, a plus;
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting preferred, and at an FQHC, a plus;
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of underserved communities such as undocumented workers, unaccompanied minors, LGBTQ+ populations, communities of color, youth / adolescents, and those experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and / or mental illness;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices teaching methodologies, tools, and experience with e-learning software;
  • Knowledge of Human Resources theories, practices and techniques;
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles;
  • Skilled in effective written and oral communications, creative writing, public speaking, listening, presentation, group facilitation, influencing and proficiency with presentation applications;
  • Skilled in coordinating activities with other internal departments and / or external agencies;
  • Skilled in effective project and time management;
  • Bilingual English / Spanish, preferred (read, write, speak with fluency).
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, within the 40-hour workweek, as needed.
  • Ability to reconcile labor relations issues in the context of both existing labor agreements and the ever-changing environment of employment law;
  • Ability to scale human resources provisioning in a large and growing health services organization;
  • Ability to work as part of a team that supports all of SJCH employees at all levels and tenures;
  • Ability to utilize trauma-informed management to resolve complex people relations matters.

Responsibilities :

Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties :

  • Design and develop effective training programs curated to support SJCH strategy, goals, and suitable for both administration and programs.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the learning management system and provide reporting related to module completion, in-progress, and delinquency following up to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure training materials comply with regulations, are infused with DEIA principles and meet the needs of SJCH.
  • Support grant deliverables and provide audit documents, tracking, and assistance.
  • Support regulatory and grant compliance ensuring training requirements are consistently accomplished by eligible employees at all levels.
  • Work closely with management to assess areas for employee improvement, developing training courses for new and existing employees, and establish methods to track employee performance after the completion of training.
  • Guide and support new hires and existing employees by conducting training sessions and coordinating group training creating effective learning experiences.
  • Identify training needs and develop training modules and materials or follow the procurement process to select and coordinate training through an outside training provider.
  • Work within the training budget and support the procurement process for training-related projects.
  • Select and reserve training locations, coordinating all aspects of training delivery, including post-training responsibilities, maintaining records of attendance / completion, and timely follow up with management and / or the learner.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of training and workshops and develop appropriate modifications.
  • Develop systems and reports to monitor and ensure employees are performing their responsibilities according to the training.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the training modules and develop learning and development metrics and reporting, including, but not limited to : training attendance rate, course completion rate, trainee drop-off rate, assessment pass rate, training return on investment, knowledge retention, and participation rate.
  • Responsible for the management and facilitation of all required training for all staff as per state and federal regulation.
  • Conduct training and workshops to raise awareness and enhance understanding of DEIA issues, fostering a more inclusive and culturally competent workforce.
  • Collaborate with leadership and various teams to integrate DEIA principles into recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and career development processes.
