The Tacoma Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility located at the Port of Tacoma in Tacoma, WA, plays a pivotal role in the region's energy landscape.

The facility serves as a provider of cleaner fuel alternatives for Alaska's maritime vessels, as well as residential and commercial customers of Puget Sound Energy by supplying essential natural gas reserves, ensuring reliable service even during the most frigid winter days.

Opportunity Summary

The O&M Technician is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of the Tacoma LNG facility through highly skilled mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work.

Operating the Distributed Control Systems, they perform data entry for compliance, interpret equipment readings, and initiate corrective actions as needed.

With expertise in interpreting schematics and diagrams, they autonomously conduct maintenance and inspections, calibrating instrumentation and managing spare parts inventory.

This role encompasses a diverse skill set, including hands-on tasks like cleaning and painting, and demands a commitment to safety through participation in company-sponsored training programs.

Primary Functions

  • Operate the Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for efficient plant control.
  • Conduct data entry as needed for compliance and production purposes.
  • Take equipment readings, interpret abnormal readings and alarms, and initiate pre-designated corrective actions, including the activation of emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Operate all plant equipment based on the type of process in operation, covering liquefaction, vaporization, trucking, and standby.
  • Work independently to ensure proper plant operation, security, and adherence to emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Notify supervision promptly of any abnormalities encountered during operations.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and process flow diagrams (PFD).
  • Calibrate pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, meticulously recording results on calibration checklists.
  • Execute work orders for inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance systems.
  • Maintain a spare parts inventory, promptly reporting deficiencies for restocking and reorder.
  • Perform diverse tasks, including cleaning, painting, pipe fitting, carpentry, masonry, and insulation work.
  • Work rotating shifts during plant operations, including Vaporization, Liquefaction, ship loading, or Truck loading.
  • Participate in and successfully complete company-sponsored training programs as required.
  • Undertake other duties as necessary to contribute to the efficient and safe operation of the facility.

The O&M Technician reports to the O&M Manager

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.

Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position follows a Monday to Friday work schedule during regular day shift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions.

On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

The initial starting compensation will start at $45.50 per hour

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to comprehend procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, typically acquired through four years of high school.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in efficiently operating Distributed Control Systems for effective plant control.
  • Proficient in accurately conducting data entry for compliance and production purposes.
  • Extensive experience in operating a variety of plant equipment for different processes, including liquefaction, vaporization, trucking, and standby.
  • Proven ability to work independently, ensuring proper plant operation, security, and adherence to emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Strong aptitude for interpreting electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and process flow diagrams (PFD).
  • Demonstrated skill in calibrating pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, maintaining meticulous records on calibration checklists.
  • Proven ability to execute work orders for inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance systems.
  • Experience in managing spare parts inventory, promptly identifying and reporting deficiencies for restocking and reorder.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and be self-directed, with a talent for applying creative solutions to unique problems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and following oral and written instructions, as well as maintaining accurate equipment logs and records.
  • Previous LNG work experience is not required; however, the ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card) is a must.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
