The City of Virginia Beach Economic Development Departmentis recruiting a Planner III / Urban Designer to manage tasks and coordinate dailyactivities within the Project Development Division.
The Project Delivery Division’s mission is to ensureVirginia Beach’s sustainable economic growth through the implementation ofstrategic developments.
A collaborative multidisciplinary team of planners,landscape architects, urban designers and business attraction professionalsutilize innovative land use planning, design, transportation, parking, marketing,and financial tools to achieve this mission and work on a number ofinfrastructure and development projects to create places of sustained communityvalue.
The division oversees the Economic and Tourism Developmentportion of the City’s Capital Improvement Program as well as the City of VirginiaBeach Development Authority’s business parks and assets.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to :
- Develop maps, plans, exhibits, building massingmodels, development scenarios, design guidelines, and reports
- Graphically conceptualize land development on aparcel, block, and multiple-block scenario basis, in accordance with relevantregulations and policies, utilizing relevant software applications
- Review, evaluate, and analyze reports regardingproperty acquisition, redevelopment scenarios, property assessed value,property ownerships, and property development alternatives
- Assist in the review of development-relatedapplications, plans, and proposals for compliance with City Code and policiesrelating to development
- Serve as a design, planning, and infrastructureliaison to the ViBe Creative District and Resort Area
- Present development projects and programs to theVirginia Beach Development Authority and the Resort Advisory Commission and itssubcommittees
- Assist with the preparation of Capital Projectbudget submittal and presentations, track project milestones and schedules,assist project managers and consultants
- Ability to lead teams and provide creativedirection to planning efforts at a variety of different scales, from sites andstreetscapes to small area plans and whole community planning efforts
- Develop cost estimates and budgets for publicand private development projects

Skills Required : MINIMUMS : Bachelors degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Political Science or related field and four (4) years of experience utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions as Planner or Landscape Architect OR any combination of related education (above high school level) and years of experience equivalent to eight (8) years.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.
Education Requirements : MINIMUMS : Bachelors degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Political Science or related field and four (4) years of experience utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions as Planner or Landscape Architect OR any combination of related education (above high school level) and years of experience equivalent to eight (8) years.
