The Mainframe Systems Programming Manager manages system programming professionals and leaders and is accountable for the performance and results of the team.
Decisions are guided by policies, resources, and business plan. The Leadership impact of this position is the level of service and the team's ability to meet quality and volume goals and the timeliness of completion.
It is a senior-level technology position, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of information technology concepts, issues, trends, and best practices as they relate to the mainframe environment.
- Collaborates with other high level IT professionals, business strategists, specialized technicians, business process experts, vendors, consultants and / or business partners.
- Solves complex problems that have direct and important impact on strategic IT priorities and / or measurable business results.
- Credible expert advisor to peers and internal / external business partners; trusted advisor to Leadership.
- Creates improved IT materials, tools, work aids, and processes related to System Administration.
- Coaches less experienced system programmers in that discipline.
- Collaborates on operational / tactical business issues with internal business partner managers and subject matter experts.
Provides information / effectively interacts with external vendors, suppliers, auditors, business partners.
Lead the group of mainframe system programmers, serving as a knowledgeable subject matter advisor and collaborator in their duties to :
o Perform overall environment administration.
o Design, manage, and maintain the data mirroring solution to ensure disaster recoverability and compliance with established RTO and RPO.
o Install, configure, and maintain z / OS operating system releases.
o Install, maintain, and administer mainframe 3rd party software products.
o Troubleshoot mainframe hardware and software issues.
- Maintain documentation on standards and procedures.
- Participate in the setting of strategic direction for the implementation of mainframe services and technology.
- Work with the operations and delivery teams to develop and implement new functionality, collaborating with them through the Systems Programming lens to ensure new functionality does not compromise performance and health of systems.
- Provide leadership and mentoring on the business value of various solutions.
- Mentor staff in the application of technologies, processes, tools, and standards.
- Lead staff in the definition of project scope, plans, and deliverables, including cost projections and proposed implementation dates.
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field or equivalent work experience.

- Advanced knowledge of IBM Mainframe, z / OS, and peripheral hardware, including varying levels of familiarity and experience with : z / OS, CICS TS, DB2 z / OS, MQ z / OS, GDPS (Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and Global Copy), HyperSwap, LCP & SGC, HSM, Parallel Sysplex, SMP / E, HLASM, REXX & ISPF, SAS / MXG, Source management and code deployment, HCD, WLM, SMF analysis and reporting, SMS / disk and tape management, Batch Scheduling, Hardware (VTS, disk subsystems, and capacity planning)
- Advanced knowledge of automated systems (console / message, product state, APIs, and integrations)
- Experience in developing and managing budget
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills; to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results, and relationships
- Effective skill in presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives, and information clearly and concisely
- 10 years experience in mainframe system programming and related technologies, with at least 5 years experience in management of system programmers.

- In-depth knowledge of industry and market trends related to mainframe operations, applications, and emerging technologies.
