Position Summary :
Campbell University School of Law seeks a dynamic and collaborative Supervising Attorney for the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic .
The Supervising Attorney will work closely with and under the supervision of the Clinic’s Director and enjoy an initial one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
The position is part-time and requires approximately 16-20 hours per week maximum.
The Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic opened in August 2021 and provides free legal representation to low-income individuals seeking to obtain child custody, child support, postseparation support & alimony, property division, separation & divorce, and domestic violence protective orders.
The Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic offers this representation in connection with an upper-level law-school course through which law students authorized under the student practice rules will represent Clinic clients with the instruction and supervision of the Clinic Director and Supervising Attorney.
The Supervising Attorney will support, assist, and collaborate with the Director, serve Clinic clients, maintain client files, supervise and mentor Clinic students, and promote the Clinic and its work.
Although Clinic students will be expected to take the lead in work on behalf of Clinic clients, including in witness interviews, court appearances, meetings, mediations, etc.
either the Director or the Supervising Attorney will be present in an advisory role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Role : The role and responsibility of the Supervising Attorney within the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic encompasses three roles : administrative, client management, and student supervision.
In the administrative role, the Supervising Attorney will be responsible for ensuring internal policies and procedures are followed as set forth by the Director and Clinic Manager.
The Supervising Attorney will report directly to the Director.
In the client management role, the Supervising Attorney will assist with client interaction and addressing client needs outside the clinic hours of the assigned student.
In many instances that will be relaying messages and information but in emergency situations that may involve more active engagement with handling client emotions and ensuring that legal issues will be answered and addressed outside the assigned hours by the student or brought to the Director.
In the student supervision role, the Supervising Attorney will help students with completion of tasks, finding correct forms, and utilizing the technology within the Clinic.
The Supervising Attorney will help with the construction of cases for hearing, formulation of argument, preparation of witnesses, and court hearings.
The Supervising Attorney will accompany students to court to sit second-chair for hearings but will be prepared to conduct hearings as required, either in the moment or ahead of time, to ensure that all ethical requirements of the North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct are complied with and that clients obtain appropriate outcomes from court proceedings.

Education / Experience :
J.D. and North Carolina Bar licensure are required with 5 years’ experience in Family Law.
