The Opportunity

As the MassMutual Actuarial Community Program Manager, you will lead the evolution, transformation, and execution of Actuarial Program Initiatives.

You will work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, supporting the Chief Actuary in the oversight, development, and design of the Actuarial Community at MassMutual.

This will include but not be limited to initiatives with focus on Attraction / Retention, Employee Development, Diversity & Inclusion, and Internal Mobility across a broad team of 150+ quantitative based professionals.

This is a unique opportunity that partners closely with Actuarial leaders and Centers of Excellence at MassMutual across Corporate Actuarial, Product, Enterprise Risk Management, Audit, Institutional Products, Investment Management and Human Resources.

The Actuarial Community Program Manager will partner with the Chief Actuary to establish a strategic vision for the Community.

They will be forward thinking in cultivating, guiding, and progressing efforts related to actuarial development and culture for employees at every career stage within this fast-moving community.

Being able to build trust and credibility with stakeholders and demonstrate ownership and commitment to the successful evolution of this program is crucial to this role.

In addition, ensuring concise communication to keep the Community informed and engaged while setting priorities for Actuarial Talent Management Groups is essential.

The Team

The role will preside within the Corporate Actuarial and Business Analytics (CABA) team (reporting to the Chief Actuary), and involve frequent interaction across the actuarial community including all areas which are home to actuaries and related financial professionals.

This individual will work closely with the leadership of multiple organizations responsible for actuarial development from early career development through executive level actuarial talent management.

Key skills needed in this role include collaboration with various functional areas at MassMutual, agility in leading across a diverse range of talent related initiatives, leadership in chairing the Actuarial Leadership Development Program Coordinators and (Senior) Actuarial Talent Management Group, and communications in establishing a presence across the community.

Specific examples include :

Actuarial Community Initiatives

  • Manage and influence diversity, mobility, development, and recruiting strategies for Actuarial Community at MassMutual.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Chief Actuary to ensure appropriate talent development and coaching, diversity initiatives, and opportunities for internal mobility are focused on within the Actuarial Community and align to enterprise practices
  • Work closely with Chief Actuary to lead and set SATMG (Senior Actuarial Talent Management Group) and (ATMG (Actuarial Talent Management Group) meetingsand topics, and influence progress on various initiatives.

Also, own communication updates to the Actuarial Community.

  • Leverage internal and external data to influence and advise the Actuarial Community in regards to talent trends and address priority items impacting actuarial talent.
  • Coordinate appropriate communications within the Actuarial Community.
  • Represent MassMutual at industry or actuarial specific events as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-functional Actuarial Gatherings and All-Employee Meetings.

ALDP (Actuarial Leadership Development Program; Pre-FSA)

  • Ownership of evolution of the program whichincluding guidelines and oversight / coaching to the Actuarial Coordinators.
  • Lead ALDP hiring strategy alongside Chief Actuary and Talent Acquisition to set hiring goals and overall approach to meet business needs and expectations.
  • Lead and facilitate ALDP rotation process and manage student placements.
  • Manage Actuarial exam progress, statuses, and expenses.
  • Central lead for all ALDP related communications both within the program and the Actuarial Community.
  • Coordinate with MassMutual Ascend to create a consistent actuarial training program across the enterprise.
  • Guide managers in the development of functional assignments / roles for employees within the programto ensure a robust offering of rotational opportunities across MM.
  • Lead the process to assess and decide on the size and flow of ALDP candidates through to FSA roles, etc.

Some specific examples of previous projects across the community include :

  • Creating a set of diversity goals and driving execution across industry associations, recruiting and internal discussion sessions
  • Establishing a mobility program across company actuaries, including networking programs, internal communication of open roles, etc.
  • Leading a process to establish the need for and execution of education opportunities including manager forums, customized degreed training, etc.
  • Playing a key role in setting the agenda for and executing a twice annual, day long networking and education event for the Actuarial Community

The Minimum Qualifications

Candidates best suited for this role will have a proven track record in working in a large organization, communicating with and influencing senior leaders, establishing a vision for a functional team and a drive to succeed.

Specific qualifications include :

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must be able to work 3 Days in either of our Boston or Springfield office locations
  • 4+ years of experience working in or with a program, project, and / or HR / Talent role
  • 2+ years of experience facilitating and presenting to stakeholders, clients, etc.
  • 2+ years experience in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily seeking proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

The Ideal Qualifications

  • 6+ years of related experience
  • Actuarial Experience or experience supporting and influencing actuarial / finance / risk / investment type functions from a people perspective
  • Experience in executive level presentations, influencing and leading through change
  • Public speaking, strong communication skills, work ethic, passion for learning, resilience, self-motivation and self-awareness
  • Proactive leader with an agile mindset and an eagerness to lead transformation

Salary Range :

$102,500.00-$134,500.00

Your total compensation package includes either a bonus target or in a sales-focused role a Variable Incentive Compensation component.
