The Design & Research Manager is a key player in determining the future design direction of some of Allegion's most mission-critical digital products.

This management position leads a team of designers and researchers that support the Global Software Solutions portfolio of custom software solutions including Yonomi, Zentra, Mobile Credentials, Schlage Home, and others.

This design team is involved in the entire product design life cycle, from understanding business & user needs and proposing initial concepts to ensuring we deliver on measurable outcomes that delivers on our core mission to create greater satisfaction and trust in Allegion software.

This role is also crucial for fostering effective, multi-disciplinary teams, mentoring team members, and evangelizing for user-centered design.

The Software Design & Research Manager be a visionary leader capable of tackling the challenges of building an efficient, high-performing team that pushes Allegion towards products that exceed the expectations of our customers, business partners and employees.

What You Will Do :

• Work in concert with business and technology leads to direct creative and strategic thinking focused on user-centered design throughout the delivery process (Discover, Concept, Validate, and Detail)
• Lead and manage a team of interaction designers, UI designers, and design researchers (internal and contract resources) across multiple, cross-functional software product teams as they work to deliver a software that drives measurable user outcomes and business impacts
• Adopt a solution-oriented approach of IoT products that requires positive working relationships with design, research, product, and engineering functions outside of software
• Support multiple projects simultaneously by managing project timelines, balancing resource allocation, and implementing common design ops processes to effectively deliver design deliverables
• Participate in product roadmap development with business and technical cross-functional teams and use that input to inform design
• Proactively communicate design strategy and how it relates to business objectives to all levels of the organization
• Serve as an evangelist for and support the Allegion Design System
• Partner with product & technology leaders to advocate for all software capabilities and enterprise technology at Allegion
• Facilitate experience brief workshops and mentor other design team members in their facilitation skills
• Drive strategic use of design more broadly across Allegion
• Facilitate weekly team design reviews with all designers and researchers supporting your portfolios
• Oversee quality and consistency of design process and deliverables
• Define principles within the team and set standards in executional and operational excellence
• Stay abreast of current design trends, techniques, and technological developments
• Limited travel may be required

What You Need to Succeed :

• 6+ years of experience designing and shipping mobile and web applications
• 2+ years of experience managing staff
• Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Computer Science or related discipline
• Be able to understand new business domains and be creative and thoughtful about applying design to improve processes and issues
• Possess a strong understanding of human-centered design and design thinking practices
• Have an eye for detail and encourage teams to deliver with outstanding quality
• Have experience with agile methodologies for project delivery
• Push boundaries to explore new territory, but also evangelize best practices
• Support and inspire teams through cross-functional collaboration, direction, vision and planning
• Demonstrate understanding of the value of design within a business context
• Be able to communicate complex concepts clearly across different audiences and levels of the organization
• Be passionate about using design to influence user behavior, drive engagement and elicit positive emotional response
• Experience designing applications that may collectively integrate custom software, commercial off-the-self software, and existing business applications
• Experience working within a multi-brand company
• Ability to work with teams that may be globally co-located

Compensation : This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

• The expected Base Salary Range : $120,000 - $145,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
• Bonus Eligible : Yes
