Are you a college student eager to apply your engineering or sales knowledge in a dynamic, real-world setting? Join our team as a Specialty Products Sales Engineer Intern and gain valuable experience in inside sales, project estimation, and client relationship management.
In this role, you’ll assist with providing quotes, writing up orders, negotiating sales, and value engineering projects.
You’ll also learn how to estimate project costs, interpret plans and specifications, and work closely with our team to deliver exceptional solutions to our Specialty Products customers.

Key Responsibilities :
Project Estimation & Takeoff :
- Review and interpret grating products on contract and erection drawings.
- Analyze specifications and identify project-specific requirements from bid documents.
- Assist in developing accurate material takeoffs based on plans, specifications, or customer drawings, adhering to NAAMM estimating standards.
Sales Support & Communication :
- Collaborate with the Project Management, Engineering, and Sales teams to deliver optimal product solutions for projects.
- Communicate clearly with customers, managers, and OGI departments to build strong relationships and provide exceptional service.
- Help with order entry and track project details, bidders’ lists, and market segment activities.
Proposal Preparation :
- Assist in preparing proposals by qualifying conflicts between drawings and specifications and addressing discrepancies.
- Clearly outline inclusions and exclusions and prepare proposals based on bid documents and customer requirements.
Team Collaboration & Organization :
- Support the Specialty Products Sales Manager and Engineering department with value engineering opportunities and project tracking.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring accurate and timely handling of estimates and quotes.
Qualifications :
- Currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural) or a related field.
- A passion for learning and applying engineering and sales principles in a professional setting.
- Familiarity with Structural Steel Drawings and understanding of the Project Bid Cycle is a plus, or a willingness to learn.
- Experience or interest in estimating and sales is preferred.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to build relationships with clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and excellent organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain accuracy.
