The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Columbia University School of General Studies (GS) is the finest liberal arts college in the United States dedicated to making Ivy League education accessible to nontraditional students.

GS was founded in 1947 with the mission of expanding access to elite higher education, and it remains the most diverse college in the Ivy League, with many transfer, first-generation, and international students.

GS students are fully integrated with Columbia's broader undergraduate population and are taught by Columbia's celebrated faculty.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Wellbeing, this position will support and bolster the academic mission of the School of General Studies (GS) by promoting student well-being, creating supportive programming, and facilitating access to critical services and resources that will alleviate barriers to educational success.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Wellbeing, this position will support the needs of students who are experiencing challenges in areas such as academics, accommodations, physical health, psychological health, economic, discipline, family relationships, and social adjustments through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow up services.

Responsibilities include case management, program development and implementation, and other relevant special projects.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Wellbeing, the Wellbeing Coordinator performs ongoing case-management for individual students in various stages of distress and need.

In addition, they will provide follow-up to ensure compliance with recommendations to achieve the case management goals of the GS Dean of Students Office.

All case management efforts will be tracked in Maxient to ensure consistency and continuity.

  • Serves as a member of the After-Hours Administrator-on-Call team to provide after-hours support to students in crisis. When on-call, serves as a point of contact for Columbia Residential, CU Public Safety, and other campus partners in the joint effort to support student safety.
  • Support students who are returning from a medical leave of absence, in order to facilitate a smooth transition back to GS.
  • Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Wellbeing and in partnership with GS Student Life & Resident Life, GS Academic Resource Center, and other campus partners, works to develop proactive student programming, for various student populations within GS, with the goal of engaging students around wellbeing topics.
  • Participates on the FLI and PALS leadership teams to provide individualized wellbeing support including programing and case management for those student populations.
  • Serve on the Peer Advisor support team.
  • Provide support to students impacted by the conduct process.
  • Provides administrative support and follow-up for various committees such as the GS Students of Concern Committee and the GS Medical Leave Re-Enrollment Committee.
  • Serve on the GS Housing Committee and assist with communication-related to student housing.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

POSITION REQUIRES WORKING HOURS OUTSIDE OF A STANDARD WORKDAY / WORKWEEK SCHEDULE. The Wellbeing Coordinator serves as part of the on-call emergency response team and will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years of related counseling and / or case management experience required.
  • Ability to identify students in crisis based on social work, clinical psychology, or counseling psychology experience; provide support as needed.
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with groups; works well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities and be a team player.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows and MS Office is required.
  • Proficiency with Maxient is desirable.
