Associate Director for Health, Safety, & Event Planning

to serve as a member of the leadership team and provide oversight and leadership for health and safety initiatives including risk prevention efforts, event planning and monitoring, and policy compliance.

This position will assist the Director in ongoing strategic planning and the execution of the Fraternity & Sorority Life mission and purpose for a community of diverse students, chapters, and governing councils.

The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the mission and goals of the university, strengthen the scholarship and build the character and integrity of our members, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage State College through community service and philanthropic efforts, and affirm personal and organizational responsibility.

This position provides support to chapter advisors and local house corporation personnel, will represent Student Affairs and OFSL on various committees, and establish and grow relationships with internal partners such as Student Accountability & Conflict Response, Sexual Misconduct Reporting & Response, Health Promotion & Wellness, and the Gender Equity Center, as well as many external stakeholders.

This position reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life and will supervise a team of one Senior Assistant Director and three Assistant Directors with collective responsibility for health, safety, and event planning initiatives within a fraternity and sorority community of approximately 70 chapters and 4 distinct councils.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Guide educational programming around health and safety, including event planning, risk management, and hazing prevention.

Develop and revise policies and procedures that contribute to the health and safety of the fraternity and sorority community.

Assist staff in navigating crises such as alcohol and other drug use, hazing, and sexual misconduct incidents that require mandatory reporting.

Assist the Director in strategic planning utilizing current trends and assessment data.Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the health, safety, and event planning team, including the senior assistant director and assistant directors in the office.

Establish and enhance relationships with external stakeholders such as advisors, house corporation personnel, inter / national headquarters, the State College Borough, and local police departments.

Collaborate with the Gender Equity Center to support and facilitate the Greeks Care program.Serve as a liaison to Student Accountability & Conflict Response, Sexual Misconduct Reporting & Response, Student Care & Advocacy, and other University departments to develop the fraternity / sorority community and its stakeholders.

Distribute and review the new member survey that asks students about their experience with new member education / intake.

Represent Fraternity & Sorority Life and Student Affairs on various committees, including the Hazing Prevention Committee, Campus & Community Partnership, and First 8 Weeks Committee in collaboration with the State College Borough.

Guide ongoing professional staff development and training for the department in collaboration with the leadership team.Provide leadership for other initiatives and projects as needed.

Candidates must demonstrate : Understanding of student development, risk prevention and event planning concepts, and health and safety issues in the fraternity and sorority community.

Ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and providing culturally competent and inclusive services to students and organizations from historically underrepresented communities.

Record of collaboration with students, University departments, inter / national headquarters, and other stakeholders.Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching.

Ability to balance holding students accountable with developing positive and trusting relationships.Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict.

Presentation and training facilitation skills.Education and Experience : The position requires a bachelor's degree or higher, 8+ years of related experience, and 3+ years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

A willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required, including as a part of the shared, rotating schedule for on-site event assessment, approximately one or two weekends a month.

A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check may be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is : $61,800.00 - $89,600.00CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS : Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
