Brooklyn Public Library's Enhanced Young Adult Learning Program (EYALP), designed especially for 17 to 24 years of age, who would like to complete high school equivalency and move ahead into higher ed, job training and the workplace of their dreams.
The mission of EYALP is to partner with young adults to cultivate literacy and numeracy foundations, move towards high school equivalency, and contextualize learning in growth industries ranging from healthcare to hospitality and computer technology to propel EYALPachievers towards satisfying and successful careers.
EYALP is seeking dedicated and skilled Math instructors to prepare participants to improve their overall numeracy skillsand critical thinking skills.
The instructor will help improve students’ analytical skills based on the TABE assessment and prepare them to successfully use those skills on the GED exam.
In addition, the instructor will also work to ensure students are equipped to use math in the workforce and to improve their financial literacy.
These courses are designed to be flexible to address the needs and expectations of the diverse community and participants we serve.
The Math instructor should have the ability to develop lessons using extensive problem solving and analytics within the content areas of mathematics, science, and technology.
The instructor should also be able to integrate culturally responsive and trauma-informed instruction using different modalities with interactive small group learning activities, videos, and some non- traditional classroom curriculum.

Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality instruction to youth and adult literacy education program participants employing research-based instructional strategies and best practices including differentiated instruction.
- Implement and expand literacy Pre-HSE materials while incorporating participants’ relevant interests and learning needs for HSE prep.
- Integrate the career awareness, post-secondary pathways (PSP), and workforce readiness curricula into instruction.
- Administer the TABE test and other assessments as needed
- Assess learning, monitor progress and provide feedback to participants to assist in meeting the instructional expectations of the program.
- Track student attendance and maintain a record of any tardiness or absences.
- Complete other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Education or a related field
- Minimum of two years' experience teaching Grade 6th to 12th or Adult Basic Education.
- Experience with science instruction highly preferred
- Ability to form strong relationships with youth and adult participants (17+).
- Experience in educational assessment and evaluation (Preferably with TABE and GED)
- Flexible, ability to work under pressure, and highly motivated to build successful outcomes.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and technological experience including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and similar programs.
- Must be able to work a hybrid schedule with up to two days onsite and two days remote. Program sites include the New Lots Learning Center and the Central Library which are subject to change.
This is a part-time position, up to 15 hours per week, with a pay rate of $40 per hour.
This is a Grant funded position through June 30, 2024. Position renewal based on perfomance.
